    hey all,

ok, i'm confused about this whole multi-table'ing business..

i regularly play 2 tables (cash games) at a time, but tonight i've been trying to get 4 tables going to even things out a bit, but it's just not working for me.. i find that i'm not getting enough time to make the right decisions..

when playing many tables at once, are you just playing the cards, or have you time to study other players moves as well?

play 3 for a while and see how you get on. I can play 2 as well as one, and three nearly as good as two. Every additional table substantially cuts back on how well I play.

If you can play on autopilot and make money at lower limits then the more tables the better.

I can multi two tables well. Playing 3 and 4 my levels of performance drop considerably unless I play 4 HE NL tables in rock mode which i can do profitably but I find it too monotonous.

I'd suggest you just move up one table at a time, in general most of your decisions are fairly straight forward, and it'll be rare when you have big decisions to make on seperate tables at the same time.

I also find that if I go over 3 tables (i.e. 4+) my expectation per table goes down, because I'm not paying attention to hands when I'm not involved that would help me to pick up a bluff later or I might miss out on value in hands, where my opponent might have called a bigger bet, etc. etc. but certainly if you just add a table at a time and get used to it then it is certainly manageable. I can play three tables easily enough now and be able take in enough information by both watching the betting and using PAHUD to have enough information to make my decisions. Using HH's and making Notes are essential after you've seen a big pot play out when you might not have been playing complete attention to a particular hand.

If you stagger the opening of tables, by even 5 or 10 minutes, can be a big help to get a sense of what is going on at the table.

This is a good tip, nothing worse than getting heads up on 3/4 tables at the same time.

Well, I think you should probably move to 3 first rather than 4. Then, you shouldn't be long moving from 3 to 4 as the step from 2 - 3 is greater than from 3-4.

You do still study the other players when playing more tables but all you really need to know is how bad/good they are and take it from there, you don't need to read too much into every bet they make.

I've been 8 tabling party the last two days, after 6 tabling the previous two, and my win rate is the same as it was on 4 tables. If you can get a system going where you have almost automatic moves for lots of situations there won't be too many times where you actually have to stop and think about what to do. Come up with standard lines for common situations. Pokertracker might help you a bit but I don't think it's really necessary for 4 tables, you just need more experience at multitabling.
