Batman or Superman - who's better?

Forgive me if it has been done to death but it's an important question.
For me, it's gotta be Superman. Batman's pathetic. He can't even fly and what on earth is superheroish about calling yourself after a rodent - although at least that particular rodent can fly. Taking their alter egos into account - and I'm going to risk not using spoiler tags - Clark Kent is everyman. He has the same weaknesses as you or I. And he's not ashamed to show them. Bruce Wayne is a pompous, moody git who always has something profound and meaningful to say. The "strong, silent type". Meh, give me a goofy nerd any day.

    Superman FTW!!!

In the Dark Knight Returns, Batman beat Superman

    Batman.

Sure, anyone could be a hero, save the world, help the aged etc with the kind of powers Superman has!

    Weaknesses...LOL.

Superman is more powerful yeah, but Batman is a million times more cooler. Batman actually struggles, and works hard. I read somewhere that Superman can technically like, absorb an entire star and stuff like that. Yet he struggles with Lex Luthor. He's a loser. Didn't even have special powers put upon him against his will like say Spiderman. And yeah, Batman even beat him once. So Batman of course.

In a fight, Superman would win, but Batman is so much cooler. He's rich too.

    Batman ftw

In A fight to the death it has to be superman. But Batman looks slick and has a deadly car and cool gadgets. Superman has tight spandex and a cape

Batman. Weakness: he's human. His gadgets make up for it, tho.

Superman. Weakness: kryptonite. He only gets away from it with help. No help, he'd be fscked.

Batman easily, "its the car, chicks dig the car".

Superman is a super-hero. Batman is a vigilante Bill Gates with a rubber fetish.

    Batman no question.
The Dark Knight, an anti hero, so wrapped up in inner turmoil but yet always there for the needy too.

    <
    is this a clue?

all that occupies Superman's mind is how to get cosy with Lois lane :)

And of course if you're going to wear red underpants outside your trousers how do you expect to be taken seriously :D

For anyone who thinks Batman is better than Superman read Action Comics 775.

Batman is psychologically unbalanced and the only thing seperating him from the villains he chases is he's chosen to attack the bad guys rather than the innocent. He's obssessed with revenge to the the point that his actual identity is now a mack for his 'heroic' one and he qualifies everything in his life by what he does when he's running around at night in a giant bat suit. Sure he's intelligent but he needs a major dose of therapy.

Oh and the only reason Batman has ever beaten Superman in a fight is because Superman always holds back. (See the Hush storyline for Clark revealing this)

Shouldn't this really be in the comics forum?

Which is exactly what makes him better than Superman. He's interesting.

Might want to read those posts again there, before you go making outlandish accusations like that...

    Anyway, Superman is a dick.

Too hard a question to answer for certain. Superman was my childhood hero (even had the outfit) and I'm as excited about the upcoming movie as a four year old on Christmas Eve.

BUT... Batman kinda wins on 'coolness' terms because he chose to be a hero. No magic gifts just a lifetime of training and (to quote Kevin Smith) an 'ass-load of cash'.

And as a few others have pointed out Batman beat Superman when they fought (assuming you take Dark Knight Returns as being canon).

Sexual assault is a serious matter tbh! Yeah, I was thinking of the more recent incarnations of the Batster. The campy 60s series was pretty cool too, in a trippy sort of way. :D

YES! Buttercup is my own personal Jesus.

Batman's a more interesting character, plus he could have sex with a woman without his semen exploding her womb and, y'know, killing her.

would you trust your life to an alien in tights or a man who thinks he is a bat? com'on!!!!! batman ftw!

I heard that Indiana Jones got the title of best super hero because he was human...but Batman is too and Batman is much cooler.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 202 ✭✭Darkbloom

Yeah, but I defer to Mallrats on why Superman sucks:

Brodie: It's impossible, Lois could never have Superman's baby. Do you think her fallopian tubes could handle the sperm? I guarantee you he blows a load like a shotgun right through her back. What about her womb? Do you think it's strong enough to carry her child?
    T.S. Quint: Sure, why not?
Brodie: He's an alien, for Christ sake. His Kyrptonian biological makeup is enhanced by earth's yellow sun. If Lois gets a tan the kid could kick right through her stomach. Only someone like Wonder Woman has a strong enough uterus to carry his kid. The only way he could bang regular chicks is with a kryptonite condom. That would kill him.

At least Superman can get laid, Batman is celibate.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 10,730 ✭✭✭✭simu

I'd say he gets the odd bit of action in his Bruce Wayne role tbh.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 697 ✭✭✭the Shades

No it's a rule at DC Comics Batman is celibate, he doesn't have time at night and it would distract him from his mission.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 23,216 ✭✭✭✭monkeyfudge

He gets to fondle Robin though, right?

looks like superman just about gets the win.

although bruce wayne battered clark kent

Batman is way better though imo. he's the harder working superhero.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,504 ✭✭✭Nehpets

    Has to be Superman. http://www.biggercheese.com/index.php?comic=610

Batman is a ponce who needs a kid for his backup (robin). Plus he can't fly.

Batman plus Kriptonite (sp?) wins, also I agree with simu, batman's black outfit looks cooler than those tights Soupman wears. *Blue Lagoon hickups...That was a good pint!*

Batman, being the best detective who has ever lived, would find Supermans' weaknesses very easily

Batman, without a doubt. Sure, if you locked the two of them in the room together then Superman would come out, but batman never fights a straight fight. He always swings it his way.

Oh, and he's also just plain cooler

Batman always wins over Superman in the comics. The fact Sups once said he always held back means little as Batman let Superman go everytime. Both Bruce Wayne and Batman have beaten Lex Luthor yet that is Supermans arch enemy because he maide him go bald!
SUperman is also responsible for the destruction of Kansas

    Hmmm... BATMAN of course!!!

But the question now arises, which Batman? Is it the DC Comic's version, campy 60's Bat-a-go-go, or the big screen outing.

And when you think about it, which big screen version? Gotta be Michael Keaton for me with Christian Bale being a close second.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,376 ✭✭✭Funsterdelux

Batman all the way, sure Superman has super powers and is a fictional character, were as Batman is just a man.

We need a poll on this one

Adam West could have kicked Keaton's ass. Tim Burton did an amazing job but Nolan brought more realism and Bale just showed man in the bat like Frank Miller's story. Val Kilmer I think was the worst. Clooney might have been good if he got a decent script and director

I was going to say Batman but then I read that "Superman is a Dick" link and started to warm to him.

Funny because you say this as if it is a bad thing. Thats the hole point of Batman, is that he is a fu*king psycho and it is a mighty thin line between him and the bad guys.

Superman is a chump, 99% of the time there is no risk to him at all. It's always other people with the lives on the line. At least Batman risks death.

For me it was all summed up with The Death and the Life of Superman.

As Supermans funeral procession a guy tried to rob someone, Batman caught him and tied him up and hung him off a building, as he was leaving he said "Your lucky this is His town, if we were in Gotham I'd just kill you but while i'm here i'll do things his way."

Batman had the nuts to say "Fu*k this" to the moral compass and just do what needed doing. All Superman ever did was feed the prison systems. Batman would just cut you up! :D
