Sorry I never use them, so I cant recommend one for you. All I posted to say was, please be careful, if they are charging you 2.70 per min, they are doing it for the money probably before your wellbeing. If you do ring one use your sense to judge whether they are any good, or just spouting stuff that could apply to anyone, and dont let them string you along just to keep you on the line. A lot of these lines bear the disclaimer in their ads that they are for entertainment only. So what does that tell you? Me? Id get a face to face consultation with a reader in preference to expensive phone lines.

I blew around €200 euro on one around 8 years ago and my parents were furious. Steer clear! ;)

Try ring or text the show me and steven were on. They give free readings on the show and the one i got was very good. They also do readings in person.
I know its not really a tarot line but it may be what you want, i agree dont trust the lines where you can get just anyone.

I believe the best way of finding a good reader is through word of mouth. As the topic is specifically about Tarot lines, I feel there are a few sincere readers working for these lines, but the price is so-over the top it's not worth it on the off-chance that you'll get a good one. I know someone who spent 15,000 euro on the lines and never got an accurate reader. My advice would be to avoid them.

I have used these lines twice before. First one after hanging up the phone I got really mad she told me a lot of crap. Second one must say was pretty accurate but in saying that there is nothing better than getting a face to face reading. I usually get one once every one to two years by the same person. Try pick one that tapes reading as at least then after you leave you can play back and here what she really said and not your interuptation of it. Tarot lines are over rated and really over priced.

I tried them a couple of times and tbh I never got any real information from them but they did cheer me up as I was feeling pretty miserable at the time, gave me hope so to speak.:)

I've gotten a reading by a person from here and it was very good: http://www.thetarotacademy.com/

ok so refairing to junkyard as a sucker? kernel have you had a reading at all (or even from these people?) ... probably a no but you feel you are qualified enough to have an opinion so strong as to insult a fellow poster?

As i said i got a reading from a co-founder of that place and it was very good. I can only recommend them based on my experience, like i said they are people you can get a face to face reading with.

You have one post to apologise to the poster and assure me that your future posts will offer some sort of constructive argument.

I'd just like to backup 6th's recommendations. I too had a reading with them and found them very genuine and sincere, aswell as very accurate.

No, I'm saying that's what PT Barnum would say - and did say in fact.

I would never be so rude.

My point was that he didnt say it in relation to junkyard or the area of tarot readers specifically, you took it unpon yourself to do that.

Anyway it appears to have been sorted so i think the two of us should step back before we get banned.

Thanks Kernel, apology accepted. For your own information I've read an awful lot on this subject and sure, they're a lot of bluffers out there but they're certainly genuine people out there too, for my mind anyway.
The problems arise trying to separate the two.
Thanks for the defense too everyone.:)

i agree with this, i nthe general sense of tarot or card readings, not directed at the other posters.

ive had my cards read on a couple of seperate occassions at the bequest of a previous partner who seemed to put great stock i nthem.

although, coming from a more cynical background, i found that having readings like 'the cards say you will live somewhere with lots of trees' is a bit like saying 'youll probably get out of bed tomorrow.

i saw nothing in any of my readsing that couldnt be said to any punter, and yet, if said to any person, if they wanted to take something personal from it, they could.

if you know what i mean.

im sure there are several stock phrases and situations that card readers rotate to pad out their 'readings'.

i see a tall dark stranger on the hoizon....

aye, im into town where there are 10 million people and i kow only 3. that leaves a lot of strangers, some of whom are bound to be dark....
    :)

I agree to a point, dont think for a second i'm saying all readers are genuine. But are we so special and our circumstances so unique that what ever applies to us can not apply to many others? Look at astrology, that deals with huge groups of people for the most part of it yet it has a larger following (albeit in tabloids and sunday magazines) than tarot.

Lots of tall dark strangers down my neck of the woods too.;) :)

I think the "bull****" observation of the OP about covers phone tarot lines and their like. These are commercial generalisations that go on forever to ensure maximum cash outlay. They're hardly better than the newsapapers in which, if you study them long enough, you'll often see the same 'predictions' rotated around each of the star signs at various points throughout the year.

I have a problem with fortune tellers and predictions in general, finding them to be little more than exercises in clever psychology, but more to the point, you change your future as you go by making daily choices and decisions. The only thing I think you can get from horroscopes and their like is advice on how to be a better, wiser person, and by learning this you can avoid most of the negative pitfalls awaiting you in life.

So here's my reading for you: You have known suffering in your past, but this will end as you strive towards a new beginning. A stranger will offer you some good advice, but you must decide for yourself if you are going to take it. There may be troubles ahead, but while there's moonlight and music and love and romance ...

i dunno if this is against any rules if it is i apologize but it would be neat if we had a chatroom here i saw on that tarotacadamy website that 6th kinly gave the link for has a chatroom so i was wondering if we could set a time like 6 or 7 pm where people could talk and chat about such matters so what do you all think?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,247 ✭✭✭✭6th

Chat room would be a very good idea, with a set time where people would know there would be others on. 6-7pm though ..... sure my family feel abandoned enough as it is ;)

Maybe "someone" who's planning a site at the moment could put one as part of their site ... you know who you are!

  • Moderators, Society & Culture Moderators Posts: 9,689 Mod ✭✭✭✭stevenmu

Yep, it's already on the list, don't hold your breath though :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,247 ✭✭✭✭6th

    Sorry went off topic.

Ok so Tarot lines get a bad wrap but so do alot of profit driven copanies. You have to remember that theres a good chance that tere are genuine people working there too. I personally wouldnt take the risk that i "might" get someone with actual ability.

There already is a chat that runs on the quakenet irc severs and setting up a
    channel there is easily done.
and it would mean less spammy chatty posts like this one :)

    #paranormal.ie would work.
Infact it does cos I just created it.

That 'someone' wouldn't happen to be someone we both know, would it? :p

Either way though, regardless of who it might be, I'm looking at having a chat feature on my main Storm Rain site at present, as part of my site redevelopment... I have CGI IRC on here, and ready to upload. Now, the question is whether to implement all the chat stuff there only, or have one on each site (two separate uploads)...

It's a simple enough job to do either way.

An IRC channel is a great idea, but would a lot of people have trouble connecting to it and using it ? (not to mention clicking on 'links')
