As Nightwish said, about 10 (working)days. Should have it within 2 weeks.
The passtport office is usually fairly quick to send them out

Yep go into the PO and get the special envelope and application, it'll get to you fairly quickly after that.

Do you not get the application in the garda station? I have to apply for a new one asap.

Coolaboola, must get some passport photos too and check all this stuff out.
What was I thinking when I got a three year one...

You still have to go to a Garda Station to have the form signed.

Do you have to wait for the date to expire on the passport before you can apply for a new one?

Is it true that some countries won't allow people in who have new passports under 6 months old ? I am travelling to Thailand in a few weeks and then on to Cambodia and Laos hopefully. The worst thing that could happen was to be turned away at the border because of my passport. My older passport had 1 year left on it but it was in terrible condition so I got a new one. The new ones are pretty cool looking.

I know some countries won't allow people in who have less then 6 months left on a passport. Its the reason i had to get a new passport for going to the states, i only had 3 months left on my old one.
I've never heard of not being allowed in with a new passport under 6 months old .

Ditto, had to get a new passport for travel to states last year. But not accepting a new passport? Sounds a bit arseways to me, haven't heard of that rule before.

Indeed a quick look at thailand immigration website says that your passport must be valid for at least 6 months, meaning that it will not expire before 6 months.

If you look at the other countries sites you'll prob find the same thing.
