    ok guys

i have this problem, i am working on a site that I are putting a new server into, however there are about 10 pc's that have been in use there for about 2 years.

when i create the domain and all the user start logging into it, they will loose all of there personal settings (the have a load of propriatory stuff setup)

is there anyway to import one profile into another ? and keep all of the settings?

Is there a domain in place already ? , once you log onto the new domain with the new profile you should just be able to copy the contents of the old profile over to the new profile ( favourites, my docs , desktop etc.. )

programs like outlook, mapped drives, sage accounts and some other pieces of software written specifically for the company

Firstly with mapped drives.. i guess u r gonna put all the users files on the new server ( should do anyway ) , so just take note of the existing paths and that will show u which files you need to give access to for each user, set the relevant security rights on the new server for who you want do give access to.

Not that much to worry about in outlook really, just Any PST files which they may have and address books.

Sage and the other third party software are a different story really, u will have to contact the vendor / support for each program and they will fill you in, as these programs can be ( and will be ! ) very specific.

Will you be setting up the Sage Accounts as a multi user system with each machine as "client" and accessing a central database?

Also handy to use from the WinXP cd is the file and settings transfer wizard.

Outlook : File "Import and Export" Export to .pst file and when you have them back on domain import the pst file for that user. Do this for the contacts too. I presume they are all pop3 email accounts?

The other specifically writen software will probably need support from the particular vendor.

Mapped drives should come under File and Settings.

If it is outlook u r using, with a POP account ( which safe to say it is as u said there is no existing domain, so no exchange server ), take note of the POP3 and SMTP servers being used at the moment, u will also need to know the username and password being used for the account, if u dont have , whoever hosts u r mail will be able to help u out.
