Is it in the clear part i.e. window, or the actual soft-top i.e. fabric part of the roof?

It's on the fabric at the lowest part at the side..just above rear quarter/wheel arch area just at the point/elbow where the hood folds down. A bit tricky to describe!
I'd like some kind of small vulcanised patch repair..its very small but I want to stop it getting any worse.

It might look a bit kack, but consider a bike puncture repair kit inside and some vinyl weld outside?

Cheap and nasty perhaps, but it'll work.

You could call Duffy Auto Trim in Whitehall. They will take care of it no problem, ar at least advise you how to DIY. Good guys there !

Update which may be of interest to vinyl soft-top owners... I was recommended to try ColorGlo Ireland who have a mobile service. Repair was very difficult because of access problems however he kept at it and did a fantastic job with a heat weld/inner patch which will stay flexible as the hood moves up/down. Almost invisible as he blended in the colour. Got both sides done as other side was showing a small hole also.

Overall well pleased and thanks again for advice.

Sorry for delay replying..not on air. Cost was €130..very tricky place & it took him around 2.5 hours. forgot to mention he also welded a small split seam as well. Good luck!

    Hi Malpas,

My girlfriend's MX5 needs repair, so was just wondering how the repair by ColorGlo is holding up two years on?

It's been very successful...no problems, he did a fantastic job and you would hardly notice the repairs. Overall it saved me a fortune if I had to replace the hood. Good luck!
