NTL digital to Sky+ convert

Like many I never quite got over losing Eurosport so I finally dropped NTL Digital and switched to Sky+. So here are my first impressions for the other Eurosports fans out there:

    - Firstly the PVR (i.e. record) function is incredibly good. Everything you could dream of and then some. It is also very intuitive to use. Brilliant.

    - The programme guide is also excellent. With NTL I never used it but with Sky I use it all the time. It's very quick and again very intuitive. Also, the programme descriptions are genuinely informative unlike the generic 'Todays current affairs' type info you get from NTL.

    - Be aware about the 'Add channels' function that you need to use when adding UTV, BBC3, BBC4. These channels are seriously nobbled - no interactive functions, no future programme info, no record function.

    - Sky+ has a digital audio output which I have not connected yet. However, based on the EPG info there are very few programmes with Dolby Digital available (33% of movies and no other programmes from a quick look).

    - Picture quality is consistently good on all channels. On NTL once you strayed from the mains ones (RTE, BBC etc) the quality deteriorated a lot.

So there you have it. Overall the PVR function does it for me. It really changes the way you watch TV. If you are a bit organised you should have 5 decent programmes lined up every time you sit down, all with titles and full descriptions. Simply brilliant.

Sky+ is quite a brilliant piece of kit

what annoys me is the recording subscription required

picture quality on some channels can be shocking (Sky One, ITV)
i would recommend it though if of course you have 2 premium channels or more

Hi, was thinking to going down the same road myself... i currently subscribe to NTL ( digital ), and have all the channels ( but not sports ), this cost €54 per month, so what does sky+ cost ? ( for same channels i have now... ie all but sports ), or is it too tricky to give a straight out price..... ie too many package options ?
