I've heard a lot about this horse and only saw those videos yesterday, he looks awsome and can produce it anywhere from 8 to 16 furlongs, if he can reproduce that form over this side of the world I can't see anything to stop him, if Hurricane Run goes well in the King George, it would be some Irish Champion stakes

Only got around to watching these now, but wowzers! So visually impressive. Must be a great feeling for jockeys in situations like that, being on a horse so superior to the rest that you can cruise from the back to the front and pull away easily.

Slightly off topic (sue me) but did you check out the horse featured in the link in fade2black's sig?

I did indeed. He had some finishing kick alright! My guess is that he just joined in the race in the straight and sprinted to the wire.

For the uninitiated, I have updated my playlist of Deep Impact race replays to include the 2005 Arima Kinen (Deep Impact's only loss - 2nd to Heart's Cry) and the 2006 Yaka-something Kinen (his last race in Japan, 16f in rain-softened ground)...

    Deep Impact Racing Videos

    Hope you enjoy!

looking at that the loss to hearts cry looks like a balls up on on the part of the jockey.

    I won't back Deep Impact because -

I have no solid lines of form to the other runners. Videos of wins tell me the horse won against local opposition.

Most of his races were on firm, with I think one or two on good. If it rains (a small amount is forecast) then we are in unknown territory.

I am not familiar with the record of Sunday Silence progeny in European racing (big in Japan, but the race is in France).

His jockey was known for ill-judged races when he raced in Europe. Perhaps he has improved.

The Japanese are heavy gamblers on their horses. The price is / will be low.

there are form lines thru hearts cry in the king george with hurricane run. looking at that and the prix foy there would appear to be nothing between deep impact/hr/shirocco/pride. that's why i'm going for the unknown quantity in rail link. 8 of last 10 arc winners were 3-y-o

Hearts Cry was proven to be not up to much. I agree with Kincsem. The ground and form are major concerns for deep impact. People are just latching on to the "dark horse" image.

I dont pretend to know much about the form of most of these horses but heck were you watching the same clips as me, the horse steamed from back to front without looking like he was breaking a sweat and his turn of pace is phenominal. I will have a big bet on him anyway and think he has the potential to become one of the all time greats. I just love the way he just picks horses off one by one and then lets go and that certainly was a bad ride by the jockey vs hearts cry although all his other rides that i have seen have been excellent riding and his timing is usually excellent on this horse at least.

Agreed. I haven't seen a horse do every race what he did in Japan in my lifetime.

If he doesn't win the Arc, or especially if he runs disappointingly, I will be morose indeed - but it takes a horse like Deep Impact to remind me what I like most about horseracing.

    lol

    Anyway,

To be honest I just think it´s a race to watch and enjoy. I´ve already said that I think it will be between Shirocco, Hurricane Run and Rail Link (Pride too probably). I backed hurricane run last year but I won´t be having a bet this year.

Certainly an impressive horse, have had a couple of ante-post nibbles at him at 7/2. Might go in again tomorow, anyone know if I can take a price or will it be Paris-Mutuel returns?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 323 ✭✭Robin1982

You can take either - industry prices or the offical PMU (French Tote) returns (state on your betting slip). However, although non-French horses tend to be bigger on the PMU than the bookie's fixed odds - I believe that the Arc pool is open to be bet from punters in the Far East, including Hong Kong, Japan and New Zealand; and these people tend to bet big.

Quite frankly, Deep Impact is the most popular horse ever in Japan and is bet accordingly. Watch the market (BBC usually show both prices).

I have backed deep impact. The running will not be an issue for me, I'm expecting good - good to soft. I have not looked at the ratings, but I think this is probably the best horse in the world, at the moment. My only concern is the jockey. However, I think this horse has the class and speed to leave the others in his wake. I predict a clear win.

gotta be Deep Impact for me too. Reminds me of Dancing Brave tbh.

Have to back it just for that.

What a finish. Thought Deep Impact had it when it went for home. Couldn't shake them off though. Thousands of disappointed Japanese supporters. What a price for Rail Link on the PMU!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 323 ✭✭gamb1or

what odds was it on that^^^^

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 7,230 ✭✭✭scojones

    27/1.

I backed Irish Wells at 250 and lower on Betfair for a possible life-changing return. Unfortunately, the rain did not come to give him a chance.

But 1.3 on the PMU for Deep Impact shows that most of the betters on the course were not thinking. Only one tenuous form line to the European horses was not enough to make a decision.

Congratulations to backers of Rail Link. He had a group 1 win, had won at 1m 4f, and was getting eight pounds from older horses.

the 3yo's fantastic arc record continues
maybe that wfa allowance is too much to overcome....

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 647 ✭✭✭ChuckProphet

ahhhh...took 8/1 before i heard the japanese had poleaxed the pmu. ah well, a win is a win. what baffles me is why they waited to the day to back deep impact on the pmu thus ensuring a crap return
