    Hi,
I am looking to get into the Software Testing field, coming from a financial admin/tech support background. Does anyone know companies which recruit testers on a junior basis i.e no prev experience in the cork/dublin area? Also, in terms of 'affordable' certification, any courses dealing specifically with testing which don't cost a grand???

    cheers

    Foxy,

Try Irishjobs.ie for people who are looking for junior testers.

A course I would recommend is the ISEB foundation course in Software Testing - I think that's the name - Costs about 165 pounds sterling, and about 110 euro to sit the course. Once you sign up for this course and they send you out the CD, make sure and state on your CV that you are presently studying for that course. This will immediately put you at an advantage over other beginners. You can still look for jobs while studying for it.

thansk for the suggestion. i took a look at the site for the course and i can't find details about the £165 course.
the price details are as follows, where did you see that fee figure?

    Price:
    NCC Member
    Course fee: £680 + VAT
    Exam fee: £120 + VAT

    Non-Member
    Course fee: £800 + VAT
    Exam fee: £120 + VAT

Software testing really is just a "state of mind" rather than technical skills. If you are not the type of person who spots details and is quite particular about things, testing is not for you.

You'll pick up the technical aspects in no time...

I know Lionbridge are looking for localisation people.

I suppose I do have a penchant for breaking things to see how they work. I remember as a wee lad my parents warning me that they wouldn't buy me anymore toys because I would end up breaking them. I smashed open a toy ambulance to see if there was a driver inside. well I was only four! :D
