Renault 4

Hoping to get some advise from you peeps. At the moment I'm driving a Peugoet 206 Convertible and while I do love it and all I'm thinking its time for a change. I put a bit of money doing it up but theres just not a whole lot to play with on them.
At the moment we have a Renault 4 sitting idle in our garage and I'm getting the urge to take her out and make her mine. How do I go about getting parts etc for it? My brother had it on the road about 8 years ago but the breaks weren't the safest so the folks made him put it back in the garage he he.
I think it might be 23/24 years old but is a classy looking car with barely any rust and never had any problems when it was running.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated as the garages don't seem to take me seriously being a girl and all!!...hope I've put this on the right bored now.

For parts your friendly Renault dealer should be the first stop. They stopped making R4's only in the mid to late 90's (on the continent) so there *should* still be parts available. Might take a while to get hold of them, though.

But before you spend ANY money on the old darling, get it properly assessd for structural integrity.
These yokes used to rust like crazy and while getting body panels should be possible, the floor pan is a different issue. There are square tube sections in this which essentially form the load bearing back bone of the car ...everything else is just bolted on, really.

While these square sections still may look good from the outside, they might be corroded from the inside out only to be held together by paint and road grime.

If these are rusted through, you can pretty much forget your Renault 4 as welding/repairing these sections to roadworthy, NCT passing standards is a very expensive job.

PS ...if it is in reasonable condition and for some reason you decide against using it yourself ...give me a shout ...I might be interested in buying it off you

I had an ex. P&T R4 van. It was brilliant.

Any information you could get for me would be great. I was going to restore it a few years ago but the convertible caught my eye. Its just plain boring now tho, I like to drive a car that has character in the engine as well as on the outside and this renault does for sure!

Thanks a mill for your advice. This has been kept in a garage most of its life so there is very little if not no rust on her so hopefully I should be ok there.
I'll keep you posted, in regards selling it...I wouldnt know where to start wouldnt have a clue how much its worth or anything.
Fingers crossed I'll have it on the road by November ;)

................sorry did you say Renault 4 or Audi S4 ?? ;)

Seriously there must be folk catering for Renault spares as they still use these cars throughout Europe. There is a guy near Swords who had piles of the 'till a few years ago, I still think he has some !

What kind of work does it need. Service parts should not be a problem but bodywork, if it needs any, will be a huge cost.

Not wishing to NOT take you seriously but have you any experience of working on cars? If not its going to be frightfully expensive to get someone else to do all the work for you.

I am *thinking* about restoring my Scirocco Mk 1 at the moment - am buying this book to help me - never done a restoration before. But I do have a little experience of doing basic work on cars.;)

My brothers are all very much into their cars and I know they will help me out as I have helped them on many occasions.
We did actually have a Scirocco Mk1 until recently until we took the engine out and put it in a 1998 Mk 1 Golf we brought in from S.A (when I say we I primarily mean my brother...I watched and made tea lol)
