I'm looking for a Sky Box or Satellite Receiver which can be use with the Sky Freesat Card along with Mini Dish etc, the whole kit, and would like to know where to get one good and cheap delivered to Ireland. Also whats the best Freeview kit available at the moment? I've had NTL before but as I don't use it much I'm trying to downgrade to a once off payment satellite system. Any other Ideas?
    Thanks

had a quick look at the last website
    €175 ex. installation

If you go for Sky themselves it will cost you a max of €258, thats equipment and installation and two of their packages for a year (€20.50 times 12 months)
Benefit include a years guarantee on your brand new equipment, installation included and the channels for a year, not bad for an extra €83.
disadvantage, need to keep connected to a telephone line for a year but this is a hit n' miss requirement

    EDIT
Sky currently offer their top tier package for €15 a month for the first 3 months so thats €16.50 from the €83 figure above and if you join online you get €15 credit, so now the €83 is down to €51.50

seems a no brainer to me...assuming you are a new sky customer of course

Thanx alot guys! I think i'll go in for the SKY world package if I don't find a better deal soon. I contacted sky and they said they have started Freesat Cards and Installation here but their prices are just ridiculous! They say you get the Sky Box, Mini Dish and Card for a price of ... ... ... 399 Euro!!! Installation included but only if you have previously connected a minidish and the cables are still around! :( else its 75 euro!!!

    RIP OFF??????

Now that rash0001 is sorted, I am looking for a receiver box, a quad lnb for the sky mini dish and cable - I have a standard sky installation in place and I am trying to get the free channels in one of the bedrooms.

Any suggestions around Drogheda or in Dublin citycentre One or even two second hand box is all I need. Or am I better off checking ebay?

You can try http://www.keshelectrics.co.uk/ and get a Pace Digibox matched pair that is 2 sky boxes with the same serial etc so you can actually switch cards between the 2 boxes and get all channels! This is not possible with 2 mismatched boxes as the sky cards are paired to your sky box serial! Its best to have a paired box where one box is in the TV lounge and the other in a bedroom! so at nights u can just take the sky card from the TV Lounge to the bedroom and get all ur subscribed channels! no need of an extra dish, LNB etc... can just use a splitter!
ebay is good but buying new or second hand is the same as there is no guarantee! so go for second hand ones as they are much cheaper. Mostly sky boxes have some problem or the other! so far I changed 4 boxes from ebay in the past 1 and a half year!
As for me I'm getting a HD Satellite box from Germany for the price of around 550 euros. Its a linux based system so its future proof for another 3 years at least!
    Hope this helps!

I have just purchased a second digibox on ebay. Pace digibox with remote control and yellow house card cost me €61 including delivery from the UK. Got a Thomson quad lnb on ebay too and that cost €21 including delivery. Slight problem with the yellow house card when I got it, ch4 and five and sky3 were encrypted but I later found out through the sat forum that if the card is left out of the digibox for a period of time it has to wait and get something like a reactivation signal from the satellite, so just left it plugged in for the night and it sorted itself out by the following morning.

thanks guys - rash, that wouldn't work for me because I want both boxes to work at the same time (do correct me if I am wrong about the idea..).

Pissed, whats the idea with the yellow house card? Can I not get any freeview and get all the free channels? ( I have a feeling that the card is for a few channels - is it?).

Well, looks like its a good time for me to go away and read the stickies and older posts - thanks again!

you can use both boxes at the same time! you will only need a freesat card aound 30 euros on ebay! the added advantage to a paired box is that the sky subscription card can be used on any box at anytime! Sky Yellow House card is the freesat card and here in ireland you can get channel 4 , 5 etc but you have to add those channels! from the remote get to the menu and add channels. if you want you can wait and see if they come on... but some old boxes won't get the signal unless you program and add the channels!

Freesat is different from Freeview! as freesat has more selected channels from sky which you can't get on freeview! to know more on this go to http://www.freesatfromsky.com/ you might not get all channels mentioned there as those are the channels in UK but its worth it!
I've also heard that in Dublin (East) you can get most of these channels but as you go towards galway (west) you get less channels and also the picture at times may not be good! I don't know how far this is true cos I'm using this in dublin and here it works fine!

Yup the yellow house card is good for channel 4, channel 5 and sky3. You can pick them up on ebay and word has it they wont change until 2008....... wait and see :D

Theres a link to the card but you will pick one up cheaper than this if you keep an eye on ebay.
