was doing a broadband wireless install last week for a Garda from the Traffic Corps. While I was there, he told me that starting Saturday 1 st July, they will launch a 30 day speeding ticket frenzy. The state estimates that over e250,000 will be generated in speeding tickets. 100,000 will go to pay Garda over time. There will 50 Gardai on duty at all times patrolling on the following:

    M7/N7 from Naas to Portlaoise
    N4 to Mullingar from Dublin
    N6 to Athlone
    N81 to Baltinglass
    N11 to Wexford
    M50
    Dublin - Drogheda

Their will be additional Gardai assigned to 'flying squads' - mobile units to patrol all other routes in Dublin, Wicklow, Kildare, Meath, Laois,
    Westmeath, Offaly, Louth and Kilkenny

I'm warning everyone now that 5 kmph above the limit can justify a ticket and every Garda is supposed to pull a car over and write a ticket every 20 minutes. They have issued brand new unmarked cars. If you must take one of these main routes, or surrounding roads beware. It's up to you how fast you go.
I was told Today FM confirmed all of this(off the record). So be safe and don't forget speeding tickets are on you. You've been warned.

I do believe it's an offense to tip people off about speed traps.

This has been posted here on various other forums at least 4 times within the last few days. I don't believe a word of it personally ... snopes.com or breakthechain.org material IMHO.

Yea, sums don't add for a start, isn't a speeding fine 80 quid.50 guards doing 3 an hour would be around 96K a day, over 30 days total would be over 2.8 mil.
But maybe they can't count at Guarda HQ.

i was driving from clonmel to carrick-on-suir today and there was a garda van with a guard in it holding a speed camera and another guard across the road giving some one a ticket. Wasn't an unmarked car though.

Total rubbish - just a chain mail. There is an article in the Herald about it today.

Strange how the Gardai told him word for word as the Snopes article.

Although if I was a gardai in the traffic dept I'd randomly tell 5-10 computer geeks that and your guarnteed they will tell everyone online within hours. :D

They have been going around for a while. One patrols just off the M50 and around the N32. See them catching people from day to day. You wouldn't reconise it as a cop car until the lights go off (and they are hidden).
