i just got confirmation from net1 that my wireless 2 meg package is in their list and i should have it in two weeks. the connection is going to the house but i have an office, on the grounds and i would like an access point set up there. what do i need to do to get a connection in this office? transmitter on the house and i receiver on the roof of the office and if so how much are we talking? and how big are said transmitters/receivers? security is not an issue, noone lives near me. and there is a clear line of sight from the roof of my house to the roof of the office, which is about 100/200 yards away.

Iriswan.ie will have all the info you can handle.

does look like and ideal candidate for a hacked linksys routers though as distance wont be an issue.

wouldnt agree with the security statement if its office data

The hacked linksys would probably work grand for you , the next step up teh ladder would be about e380+vat+bit of shipping for 2 x antennas ,radios , psus, boards. It would be decent enough gear though

Another alternative is the Buffalo WHR-G54S which might be more widely available and works fine with the DD-WRT firmware. It's getting harder all the time to get the right version models of the Linksys WRT54G.

I've never tried one of these yet but they'd be fine too. Mainly I've just used the Buffalos and the earlier WRT54G's.
