    Hi All

Due to all the arguments in house over watching the football  i was thinking of buying a second Sky Box from ebay and splitting the incoming cable to go to the two boxes ....so we can live in happy bliss in separate rooms :D

has anybody done this and are their any problems in doing so such as reduced reception/signal

thanx in advance of ur help

You'd need a quad (or dual) LNB attached to your satellite to view different channels. Without a subscription, you'll get the (few) free channels (BBC, UTV etc) on your second box otherwise you'll need another supscription.

    Irishsnake ,
As far as i know you will have to get yourself a dual lnb as you can't split the signal ! I may be wrong but thats what i have been told

    Cheers guys for that

So does it take much to fit the dual lnb to the dish

no, very simple, take your single lnb off and and plug in your quad...and then run your extra cables to it....

Is this something you can do as a DIY job without having to pay for sky multi-room? How much are these quad LNB's and where do you get them?

    Cheers

    2 things
    - First if you want all the Sky channels on a 2nd box then you need to pay Sky for multiroom - the 2nd box needs a Sky card too.

    - You will need CT100 coax, cable, you will need to be able to cut it and attach screw on F-connectors to each end and run it from the dish to where you want the TV. This invariably means going through an external wall.

    - Not all Quad LNBs fit all dishes, (Sky minidishes are different). If you have a sky minidish then look here:

I got one of these quad lnb's this week on ebay. Simple to install, just pop out the plastic rivet on the satellite dish arm , remove the coax from the lnb and replace with the quad lnb and re-connect the coax. Heres a link to the seller who I got mine from and postage was very quick. My quad lnb was a thomson make but I dont know if it makes any difference .

Thanks for the advice. I do want all channels in both rooms so I might just pay Sky the extra few bob.

I was talking to friends from Scotland and apparently over there if you ring up Sky to cancel and say you are changing to another digital provider they are offering discounts etc. I wonder are they as keen to keep their customers over here?

the card is called an FTV card, though may also be called a Freesat card, or Yellow House card.
