    Hi there,

Quick question. I'm after putting on a bit of a belly in the last year and I really want to lose it. What kind of diet can I have that will allow a few beers and what exercises can I do to get rid of the belly/man-boobs.

I can't afford a gym at the minute so it kind of limits my choices.

    Thanks

Diet is key to losing the weight loss, and generally speaking there is only a small ammount of room in the diet of someone looking to lose weight for beers.

How often do you want to drink, whats your current diet and activity levels etc???

well just post up what your current diet is and your current stats and see were you are really going wrong, however you will probably have to at least in some way cut back on the booze. Also read the stickies as most of the info you need is already there.
That and take up walking, jogging, skipping, if you have a bike cycle, press-ups and situps and other body weight exercises, etc etc are all free so there is a lot you can do without having to join a gym, all you have to do is get off your arse and start doign them, but pick something you enjoy as this should be a long term change as oppose to a short term fix ,that or you will end up back in the same position as you are now in pretty quickly

embarrassed about posting my diet here really. It kind of speaks for itself why I'm a porky bastard when I actually write it down

I'd have probably 3 or so beers a day (more on weekends)

I don't have breakfast or lunch but I have a pizza/noodles and beans in the evening

I would also eat some crap once a day (crisps/chocolate)

Therein lies my problem I think

I never get hungry in the morning/afternoon. I only get hungry at ablout 8.

Can someone PLEASE spoonfeed (no pun intended) what kind of diet I should be on?

usually i would suggest some sort of diet, but actually i'm not going to. What i am going to suggest is that you should try and post up what you think may be a good starting diet and we will go from there. hints for your answer will include cutting beer to once a weekend twice occasionally and eating 5-6 meals a day starting with a good breakfast

I think you have to have one of the worst diets i have ever seen put up so i think any change is going to benefit you.

    I honestly don't know. I've a 33" waist, I'm 13 stone and I'm 5ft 8.

    5 meals a day?

    I dunno

    Grapefruit for breakfast

Chicken salad / sandwich or something for lunch

    Stew for Dinner

I didn't know there was another meal after that.

Start with good fast walking 20/30 mins maybe 3 or 4 days a week it’s free and easy to get into. Build up to 1hr over a few weeks and at least you will feel a bit fitter.
Get yourself a push bike and cycle every other day. Take it slow at the start it may take 3/4 weeks before you see a difference.

the reason for the 5-6 meals a day spread every 2-3 hours apart helps to keep you metabolism going. Idealy i would start the day with complex carbs so porridge or sugar free museli is ideal, then as a snack have 2-3 pieces of fruit at around 11. Then for lunch something like a chicken sandwich on brown bread then may be a salad at around 4 and then dinner at around 7 and may something small as a snack in the evening.

Also try and cut out freezer food as much as possible and try and cook proper food. also cut back on any take aways aswell.

The way you where eating you where basically starving your body from around 10 at night till probably 6-7 the following night and then just packing in as much as you could. However what happens if you don't eat reguralry is that your body will try and store as much fat as possible as it thinks you are starving it.

oh, I never knew that. Kind of ignorant when it comes to fitness and diets. So if I ate like that and cut down on the beer, when would I notice a difference and what exercises (e.g how many repetitions of situps and stuff) should I be doing to make a difference?

I'm really sorry about being so stupid

I definitely agree with the cycling recommendation. I've took it up just under a month ago and have now just recentely cycling 10/15 miles a day. I didn't really have any weight to lose but I can feel my fitness levels improving.
Doing exersices can be very boring and become almost like a chore everday. It's better to be out in the sun and fresh air rather than being couped up in some gym anyway. You should start off small and then gradually increase your speed/distance.
