Lads, not to get all negative on this pissy Wednesday morning, but I was just wondering how you guys deal with the inevitable 'magic pencil brigade' you come across at golf outings etc - along with the fellas who just can't seem to count no matter how many times they play golf??

It can ruin a day out on a nice course when you're playing with some pillock who hacks it everywhere and anywhere, follows it up with a three-putt and then says "Bogey for me" when walking of the green...

To be honest, I often let it go even though I know I shouldn't. I prefer to ensure that I play with fellas who know what they're doing and are honest to a fault. Hence I often play with the same few guys. But in the odd society outing (open draw etc) you can get stuck with a lad who you know is, for all intents and purposes, a f*cking cheat!

Just wondering what people usually do or say in this situation without distracting themselves from their own game or without ruining the mood of your fourball??

do what the pro's do. count their shots and mark their score on your own card. there are rules after all. i would always call them on it. as the old saying goes. you play golf as you life life...........

I just be nice about it, and count each stroke they take. I've never had any problems.

A few of my playing partners have encountered some right muppets though. The way they handled it was they played their own game, corrected the guy each time he made a mistake. If he didn't agree, then at the end they just refused to sign his card. Not a way to make friends, but then cheats deserve what they get..

I totally agree... I had actually had one particular fella in mind when making the original post (although unfortunately there's plenty more where he came from)... The thing is, he was a very poor golfer and his cheating would usually mean he ended up finishing a round with 25/26 pts rather than the 20/21 he genuinely shot... thing was, after a year or so of playing he got a little better and start breaking 30 (but really was lke 25/26) and taking money off people and winning his class etc - everybody who ever played a round with him knew he was outrageously dishonest...

Also, this man - as far as I can see - has NEVER lost a golf ball! He finds em in knee high rough that Chris Columbus would get lost in... I mean, what do you say?? It's terribly annoying though, I love the game although I aint too great at it but things like that can just put you off...

I ask them to count their shots for me on the hole in question, sometimes he's just not counting fresh airs or forgot a shot. Generally, I find, a cheater will improve his counting once he knows you have your eye on him and call him once.
I have one or two mates that I would never, ever play for money due to their inability to count.
