Who is that guy on hunger strike outside Leinster house?
Hes on 30 days now at this stage and I haven't seen anything on the news or online about it.

Although I did see two news reports featuring people talking outside the dail, he wasn't visible in the background of either.

Haven't heard a thing about it... What's he doing it in aid of? Or just for kicks?

How long can you go without eating before you die? Surely at thirty days he's close.

It can go weeks without food. Sure Jesus did it for forty. Days that is, not months.

No first his body will start eating itself. He'll go blind from his eyes self digesting and his liver will break down......terrible business altogether, still didn't do david blaine anyharm....well if you don't count his "career" and "image"

i walked past him the other day and just saw a sign with hunger strike on it but nothing else. wud be interesting to find out what it is all about. he seemed pretty frail already so lack of food will really takes its toll. i wud have thought it wud have before now.

They tend not to publicise hunger strikes while they are ongoing. There are obvious exceptions.

I found it odd that McDowell claimed not to know that the man was protesting.
Even though he would have to pass him every day on his way in to work.

I could be wrong but I think its something like this (the story is convoluted so I may have some details wrong)

Daughter hit with glass in face at famous bar
    Cover-up ensues
    He fights cover-up
He shows documents proving cover-up to Labour Tds (I think Joe Costello)
    They return files gutted
    He goes on hunger strike.

    yes it does.
Its not hungerstrike blackmail to try and force the government to change the laws....
Its hunger striking to have his daughters story told and have justice done it seems.

Mabye its all crap, I don't know. thats why I posted here.

That was actually a reference to Franz Kafka's 'Ein Hungerkunstler'

Don't worry, plenderj, I got the reference!

Unfortunately the alternatives aren't any better. Even if you vote for an independent or a smaller party, you're still gonna end up with one of the "big two" :(

    Democracy eh?

Yep... but there is no point in rewarding them by voting them back in... eventually they'll get the message that to stay in office they'll actually have to do a half way decent job.

Not really. It's not like you or me getting fired. Even as the opposition they won't have to worry about earning their keep.

the IRA and INLA hunger strikers who died in '81 went around 50-70days each, and i presume they had usual prison duties to do for most of that time, so i'd imagine yer man will be there for some time yet.

McDowell would pretend he didn't know his own wife if it was a case of her making him look bad.

What does this have to do with the discussion? McDowell wasn't even in the bar. Apparently its Labour TDs who are the culprits (allegedly - sounds far-fetched to me)

McDowell wasn't even in the bar.

Can you share the source of that information please?
