Had to go in this morning with a suspected broken ankle from yesterday evening, wonderful Irish pavements! I just wanted to post up my experience as I went in at 8am fully expecting to be still there now approaching 5pm.

From what I can see the staff up there and doing a tremendous job ridding the A&E of pensioners with sore fingers (I **** you not!) While I was there 3 couples in there 70s came in and were sent to there GPs by the triage nurse. I think they get a terrible time considering the great work that they do.

I was in and out in a couple of hours and I can honestly say that the place was running super efficiently. Hope the media lays off the hospital staff and starts attacking the attention seekers that are causing the blockage!!! No wonder there are no beds!!

In the few times I have had to attend A&E in beaumont (sports injuries) I have always been very well looked after. The staff know what cases are genuine and obviously prioritise them.

While waiting in A&E the amount of 'time wasters' that present themselves is crazy. People who could go to their GP but don't, instead they present to A&E in the knowledge that they will get away without paying the standard charge. Their GP won't let them away with it.

Also the amount of drunks and junkies that present themselves with minor self inflicted injuries is sickening.

LOL that is better than my only A & E experience. I went to the Mater a
few years back with a suspected heart problem (it was just a panic attack).
I was left for 7 hours without seeing anyone and eventually got bored and
    went home!

Theres huge signs now saying the flat rate to be seen is 60 euro, the pensioners don't give a toss though! I'm not just picking on the pensioners tho there was a woman with her 11 year old kid... I was sitting there going hello...Temple Street?!?!? The Triage nurse spent ten minutes explaning that it was a hospital for over 14s!!

This is what I am saying there is no beds for real patients because of the time wasters!!!

I was stuck on a trolly myself.

I insisted they get all the tests they needed to do as quickly as possible, so I got out of there in under 24 hours. Once I knew there was no damage to internal organs and I was patched up to some degree I was much better off in my own bed at home.

Plus.. with the amount of junkies in there I wasn't able to sleep for fear of being stabbed again.

Not a Bertie fan myself but after witnessing it today, what can FF or their counterparts do to stop idiots legging it to the hospital with a headache?

I had to go to A&E a few weeks back - had a fall & although my ankle was really sore I put off going for a few days - didn't want to be a time waster. But had to go in the end - went in before 8am and was x-rayed, strapped up and out within an hour.

I think doctor surgery hours should be longer and more hours at weekends - with a lot of surgerys having a few doctors a rota would mean they'd still have time off. Also local clinic type things where people could get minor injuries stitched or limbs x-rayed would relieve things. I know the VHI clinic is coming Northside but the costs seem very high which would put people off.

But I do agree - my experience is the staff do a great job - if only they had the resources there'd be no messing.
