    Hello,

I recently purchased a second hand house and some of the keys for the internal doors are missing. Can anyone tell me do I have to get new locks installed in these doors or is there an alternative?

    Regards.

Did you try the keys you have in all the doors? I just moved into a new house and there was box of keys for the internal doors - of course I got to figure out which keys went in which doors. But I think I only had 3 or 4 types of key, so in other words the same key would work in more than one door. I was only looking for the ones for the bathrooms, so it wasn't a big problem and the rest are still in a box.

If you live in an estate, then your neighbours will probably have keys that fit your doors. You could try borrowing a neighbour's set of keys and make copies of any that fit your doors.

Residential Internal doors are usually Basta or Kayle locks of which there is only about 20 in a set, I think you should be able to get them from any locksmith

    Homer ,
I had the same problem with my house last year . I went to the locksmith / cobbler downstairs in the Blanch Center and he gave me a full set of basta keys for a refundable deposit of 20euro . Im sure your local locksmith will be able to help you out to some degree without forking out for new locks and keys

Look on the edge of the door where you can see the lock, the brandname will be on there i.e. basta etc, get same brand keys to try, when you find one that fits write down the key number (embossed on the key), you can then buy the particular key in any key cutters once you know which one.

It's more than likely a 2 lever lock as they're the cheapest If there's any 3 levers it gets more awkard as there something like 120 different keys It's doubtful you'll have any of them though And as said above there's about 20 combination for the 2 levers. I have the idea of 28 but can't remember exactly now

They don't do this anymore due to burglars getting these keys & doing houses/apartments.

Now must remove the lock & bring it to locksmith who'll find the fit in his shop.

Sorry to bum an old thread but I figured it is better than starting a new one.

I was wondering the keys and locks on internal doors too.

I need to replace a couple of locks and I was curious if the keys of original Yale & Basta locks (fitted 10/15 years ago) would work on newly purchased locks of the same brand?

Why would that be a concern when the new locks will come with keys ?
