Unless a very clear winner emerges from this round we'll go into another where the top 5 entries (and any tied for top 5) will proceed. Round 1 runs for 10 days, starting now.

well done everyone - some v. nice shots there.

for me it was very hard to pick between

Part Of The Furniture - Fajitas
    water wings - Merrion
    Cloud Inversion - Alun
    the outsider - elven
The Life and Times of Pillowhead - Captain P
    -Solitude-Shrimp

Yeah, it's a difficult decision alright (assuming it's considered bad form to vote for your own photo, that is :)).

I voted for "water wings - Merrion" - it was a hard choice tho. The simplicity won me over .

Doing my nut here, too much good stuff. Hard to call.

Those pillowhead shots are so obscure, i love them.

But the old bloke in porterhouse (part of the furniture) was an instant favourite of mine the first time i saw it, and has stood the test of, well, a few weeks anyway.... ;)

Elven got my vote but Fajitas was damn close. Elven's pic is simple but it conveys a very powerful feeling of isolation to me. People that are marganilised, discriminated against, the odd one out. It could be used by someone like the equality authority, pavee point or someone like that.

Anyway, there is a fantastic selection of shots there, well done everyone!

I just adore sinecurea's shot, twas no contest for me. Great work by all, but I just think there is something really beautiful and elegant about that capture.

Oh boy, this is tough... eeny meeny miny mo ;)

For me, it's a toss up between Fajitas' Part of the Furniture, Valentia's One, Elven's Outsider, Eas' Kilmainham Gaol and sinecurea's Swan soooo....

my vote goes to Elven for her wonderful portrayal of plastic ducks.... right I'm off to the quack:rolleyes:

Had to go for Alun myself, seeing as I'm a big fan of cloud inversion :D and just spent a week up the Mont Blanc massif peering down on a few of them. It would have been Valentia otherwise for that genius shot of the hot air balloon.

Tough one alright...Between Valentia, Captain or Shrimp for me...

I loved that Viking ship, a nice moody dark shot too.

Cloud Inversion - Alun just nifty and enchanting

Swan - sinecurea has bauetiful colors and ripples

    the outsider - elven lol

I have a weak spot for light trails. And a very nice shot it was too. That got my vote.

I think this might need a bit of a pimping in After Hours. Anybody care to?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,819 ✭✭✭rymus

    inadvisable

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,966 ✭✭✭elven

Do we want people form the other forums voting like? Not that I would question the taste of an average 'after hours' Joe Schmoe, of course ;)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,219 ✭✭✭Calina

It's not that. But I seem to remember the mods in AH got a little bit upset about it in the past.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,819 ✭✭✭rymus

thats it precisely. And rightly so.

Alun - Bizarre yet beautiful, wish I'd taken that, I love those sort of pics.

Think maybe I chose the wrong pic to put in myself this round... ah well, ye live...

Thanks! It was a bit of good luck really ... we were driving around in the hills, in the mist and then suddenly popped out of the clouds and saw this! In my haste to capture the shot before it disappeared I forgot that I had my polarizing filter on the lens, which I think may have been part of the reason that the photo didn't turn out as well as it should have. I was quite disappointed when I first viewed it and could actually see something of the base of the trees. In reality the tops of the trees really looked like they were floating in a sea of cloud and you couldn't see anything of the trunks at all. Ah well.

shrimp's photo done it for me, i like its simplicity. i really liked elven's duckphoto but im a sucker for landscapes. im a bit unsure about the biarittz photo, i mean i dont know what the composition is trying to capture. there is some nice lighting in it but i find it confusing:confused:

there are some other good photos there tho, well done all!

Alun got my vote - thought it was a great shot.

Benster - yours was a really close second; fantastic sunset shot.

    Love Elvens shot.

The colours/composition are great and the whole idea of the shot is brilliant.

    Bravo Elven
