Hi, I hope to work in radio and am planning to do a course to give me some qualifications this year or in Jan 2007. While researching I have seen a lot of opportunities to work in admin positions in radio stations. I wonder if anyone in this area has a word of advice. Would it be good to work in an admin position in a radio station while applying for relevant courses? Would this give you a good grasp of how it all works or would it really not benefit your cv at all? Thanks for any advice.

You should use any avenue open to you to get your foot in the door and take it from there to display your interest and talent at every opportunity.

Only thing I will say to you is be careful what department you choose to get your experience in.

If you start working in the accounts department for example, chances are the programme director may not be aware of who you are, won't even consider that you'd even be interested in any sort of on air work and for that reason, you could be overlooked.

I heard that the practical FAS training course in TRALEE with radio Kerry is really good and great for hands on experience. Apart from this Ballyfermot seems to be the best course around but I have to keep my costs down. Anyone have any info on the Tralee course, maybe someone already working in radio would know if it has a good reputation and people get jobs afterwards.
