Dont really want a land line but i want Sky + and an independant guy told me i would need the phone line for Sky+ box. Any way as my house is new i have no connection to phone grid at all.
What kind of delay is there getting eircom to connect ? and do i have any other options for a phone connection /

    Any advice greatly appreciated

The guys in Satellite might be a better place for this question.

Hmm. Now currently Sky offer a No Phone Line (NPL) installation. This carries a surcharge of €37.50

I'm not totally sure if it only covers Sky digibox, or covers Sky+ also.

Otherwise you could pay the full €299 for the Sky+ box, and you won't need a phoneline.

Else, you wait for Eircom to install a line.

You can buy the box without a subscription (much more expensive) and you won't be tied to a year contract with a phone line.

i would sooner not have the phone but the TV guy told me that the Sky + box will need a phone line to update etc or else Sky can cut it off

It uses Satellite to update. The phone on ANY sky box is only absolutely needed for:

    1) Validating a "mirror sub" where you have 2 or more receivers at a discount.

    2) Ordering from the screen.

AFASIK no-one has had Sky+ turned off for not having a phone line. But the 37.50 may apply to a regular Digitbox.

You may have to buy and install Sky+ yourself and then ring Sky for viewing card and subscription. That way you definately aren't forced to have a phone.

Sky want to make about 1/2 their income from Interactive services. Which need the phone.
