Can't wait. Think the line up is pretty amazing. gonna be hard to decide which acts to see!!

i've seen the strokes a couple of times and the chilis once and a lot of the nme wave (eg. we are scientists, kaisers, feeder.. already) so im not to pushed about going to certain sets but i think im gonna disocver a lotta new music at this festival!!

downloaded some sample songs and lily allen sounds like she'll be deadly, never seen manu chao live before but a massive fan so CAN'T WAIT for that!!

other than that im just gonna float and see what i like on the day.

Fantastic lineup, defo gonna catch The Magic Numbers, The Editors, Hard-Fi, Sandi Thom, Franz Ferdinand (Cos they always put on a good gig, real singalong stuff!), of course The Strokes and The Chilis, Gonna check out Dirty Pretty Things too (See how the lads are getting on without pete!) Death Cab for Cutie should be good, have to make time for The Kooks aswell tho! And The Zutons! This is gonna rock!!

Edit: Did anyone hear are The Raconteurs added to the lineup??? That would be class!!!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,595 ✭✭✭Giruilla

That line up is ****ing terrible!!! Half the bands have already played the last two years anyway, and they were crap then. Didn't think Feeder would show there faces again after how bad they were at oxegen last year! Green Room looks like it will be pretty poor this year. That said Pet sounds stage looks good cyhsy, zero7, jose gonzales, sigur ros, corine bailey rae, gemma hayes should all be good, its a nice new addition too.
Someone pleeaase, say a few tips on the new band stage? only ones i recognise are automatic, lily allen and boykillboy, and they all suck ass!

    This belongs in Gigs/Events foo'!

The Raconteurs would be a great adition to oxygen tbh. Its a pitty that this years oxygen will pritty much mount wang compared to last years lineup, most of the bands suck :D

Good record coming up for me...two years at Oxegen, not once in the Green Room. Am losing the record of not seeing headliners this year. The majority of the lineup is terrible but i hope i can time to reach the main stage just after Arctic monkeys. Should be able to see We Are Scientists and then head over. Sunday is just so hideously poor that im even gonna have to put up with Bell X1, Kaiser Chiefs, Franz Ferdinand. and Im not sure about Placebo either. And i only want to see the Chilis for a few old songs, John Fuscante and Flea(no, Im not gay, but they just really good)

Have to say this year's oxegen lineup looks really crap, after a good lineup last year. Wouldn't cross the road to see the who or the strokes, not to mention the overrated franz ferdinand and kaiser chiefs. Glad I don't have a ticket. Can't understand  how some people reckon that's a great lineup, look at the lineups for some of the other big festivals in england and throughout europe this summer and oxegen 2006 doesn't compare favourably.

Absoloutely appaling line up. Fact is, the Chillis sold out Oxegen. Which is a shame because

a- The Chillis are utter sh1te. A 20 year career and only one brilliant song to show for it. As my mate said, if he wanted to see a group of recovering junkies playing sh1t music he would go to an Aslan gig down the local.

b- The fans. GOD THE FANS!!! Is there anyone more middle of the road and boring than a Chillis head.

Once it sold out, MCD didnt have to make any particular effort. Other years, they needed to sell it out. They needed the people who wanted to go for the likes of Wu Tang, Prodigy and Faithless. This year, they dont. There are a few bands and artists that, if grabbed, will sell out Oxegen in a day or less. U2, Oasis, Robbie Williams, Eminem and, unfortunately for all of us this year, the Chillis. The Chillis fans bought it out, therefore anything else will do to make the numbers up (seeing as any band wielding a guitar and singing 20 songs in a row about either losing in love or nothing in particular should suffice for them). Im suprised they even bothered getting any dance DJs in.

Its the Oxegen MUSIC Festival, not the Oxegen Indie Festival. Fair enouh, its always leaned a bit more towards the indie side, but in the past two festivals I went to they provided for those who are largely disinterested with it. Wu Tang Clan, Faithless, The Madchester Experience, The Chemical Brothers, NERD, Underworld, Felix Da Housecat, they all made the festival of 04 the best weekend of my life (the sets by the Wu Tang, Faithless and Felix being the best of the best). 2005- slightly less, however there was Snoop, Prodigy and Orbital (on a whole last year the dance wasnt great, they shouldve kept it in that warehouse like back in 04, the place was heaven).

2006- what do we have? The only brilliant act on it is Felix Da Housecat. Damien Marley is decent. Damien Dempsey is fairly listenable. The Kaiser Chiefs put on a good show as shown in 2005. But thats basically it. The only act this year that I would be arsed paying to see solo would be Felix, and that is not worth 140 euro. Seriously considering selling my ticket if I can get more than 700 euro for it from some braindead chillis fan

How easy is sneaking in? Even if you make it to the campsite theres the issue of going in and out of the music area without a wristband. tbh if I went for anything it would be the campsite craic, Marley, the Kaisers and Felix would be the only people who would draw me into the music area.

You think you'll get 700 euro for a ticket? Good Luck. They are going for just over 200 on ebay right now.

I never went to Oxegen before and I have to say I'm a bit disapointed with this years line-up compared to last years but I'm still really really excited about goin!
Love the Chilis, The Arctic Monkeys, Felix The Housecat, Mylo, The Strokes, Franz Ferdinand, Pharrell, Kaiser Chiefs(their set at last years Oxegen looked brilliant on MTV!) and loads loads more!
Even more excited about camping with all my friends it should be a great weekend and I'm looking forward to it!

Exactly!! I'm glad it's ppl like u who go to oxegen and not these moany rap/hiphop/heavy metal heads who would spend the whole time moaning about the lineup.. I wouldn't care if I didn't know a single band playing it's still gonna be a mad weekend..

i'm assuming you've never been to EP then, cos it kicks the living **** out of the rip-off ****hole that oxegen has become over the last few years.

Yeah, i just cant wait till i go to a foreign festival next year with a decent lineup. Why oh why couldnt Rock Im PArk bein on two days later oy my exams two days earlier? I think the biggest nuisance about this year at Oxegen in terms of lineup is that Coheed and Cambrian have pulled out of their European dates in the summer. One band i was really looking forward to seeing

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,554 ✭✭✭herobear

coheed & cambria played in the tbmc only recently right ?

    im going to wacken :D

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 21,658 ✭✭✭✭Mushy

Yeah, Coheed and Cambria played in TBMC in early February. I couldnt go cos of:
    1) lack of money &
    2) going to TBMC two days later for Nine Black Alps which was the cause for lack of money.

Wouldnt go to Wacken myself, i know of a person who is. was telling me all about it today he was.

If your looking for a hot tip for the new bands stage, check out Cut Copy on sunday. Was delighted to see they were added. Fav album of 2005. Really cool indie/electro stuff.

Was a bit disappointed with the green room line up this year as well. As its the best stage by far, ask anyone who saw interpol there last year.:D Though Primal scream should rock, hope they play some of the screamadelica stuff.

I'll agree the line up isn't stellar, never is really. But I've never had much time for any of the headliners at festivals, the cure were great in 04 though. The fun is in the smaller arenas. My highlights from last year were Rilo Kiley (lifted my hangover on sunday), Jacques Lu Cont (throwing wild shapes in the dance tent), and the spectacle that was Interpol.
Way more fun than standing in a field of thousands staring at a screen with terrible sound distribution to boot.

No Waaaaaaayyyyyyyyy man, I must go, who is on the line up this year????? although be warned I have been at oxygen for the past few years so dont count the bands that have played there!
Although Bassment Jaxx, groove armada and massive attack are probably worth the entrance fee by themselves

What line up? are they just dragging up the oxygen bands from last year and the year before>

You make your own craic at these festivals,

But the point is it stinks of a "Hey, the Chillis sold it out in a day! Right, lets book the cheapest acts, its not as if we have to attract any more people to sell this out"

In addition to the acts I mentioned, Hard Fi seem decent, but apart from that its fcuking awful. Not one hip hop act playing (although Pharell Williams is playing i think, but that doesnt really count because hes a sh1te producer and an even worse rapper)

not goin myself but for anyone who has a ticket and thinks its a crap line up - (full of crappy guitar bands etc) go check out MANU CHAO (on sunday I think) - saw him at the point one year - if he's there with his "collective" it'll be beyond doubt the highlight of your festival. kinda hard to describe what type of music he plays without making it sound crap - its deadly, happy, fast, upbeat and just crazy.

I'd have to say the best live performance I've ever seen (2nd only to bowie and the stones) - dosent matter what type of music you like - indie, guitar, rock, dance, whatever - you will totall love this guy - the atmosphere was unreal at the point that night.

I cant enphasise this enough. I'm a huge music fan - this guy is not to be missed (I would almost consider paying the 140 for the ticket just for him)

Manu Chao...might go see him. Also want to see the Blizzards though and think they clash. Im more than likely gonna spend all day at the Main Stage out of sheer boredom. just sleep at the back of the pit would do me nicely

****ing music snobs get over yourselves stop moaning, are you incapeable of making your fun!!??? sure half the craic is in the campsite and wandering around the different stages between bands. But no, sorry, forgive me with my broad and some might say not very deep musical tastes, i don't have a clue what I'm on about. Go back and lsiten to your band that no ones ever heard of but love to talk about so you look all cool and ****.
yea i agree the chilli's sold it out, which gets me as i only like about two of their songs, fortunately i will be unable to hear them as MYLO is on the same time and ill be going like this *does the mylo dance*. K its not the best. but i gotta say im lloking forward to Bellx1, i love them and iv nevr seen them, felix Da House Cat, Strokes, We are Scinetists, but basically MYLO wins.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,008 ✭✭✭rabbitinlights

    but basically MYLO wins.

Have you ever seen mylo? Is it a live set or a DJ set?

95% of the reason im going is cos of the fun outside of the arena area. Just a better lineup to back it up would be nice. I would have said good lineup, but there is never a chance a full festival can suit a persons needs. But out of about 100 bands, you should at least expect more than 3 or 4 bands are what you want to see. Others will be different and want to see loads, but personally, that is too few bands. But yeah, the fun you make yourself beats anything over the weekend easily.

Yeah they rock! Is anyone camping gonna head down on the saturday? Will there be much room left to set up?

Am I the only person in Ireland going just for the music? I mean, I'm not saying there isn't great fun and stuff at it, but if I wanted a completely proper pissed out of my head weekend I'd head off to Amsterdam.

People automatically say the lineups ****, well the fact is, as it happens, theres 12 of my favourite bands playing. About 15 more onto that I want to see. And theres 3 of my all time top 5 bands playing. So yeah, I may be the only one, but I'm going for the lineup.

yup saw him last year in the Ambassador, it was a live set then, he rocked. Not sure, I know he's doing a dj set at hi:fi in august so i assume he'll do likewise at oxegen. have a download dj set he did in dundee in may, its rather amazing.
actually does any one know if he's playing live or doing a set??

The music is my main reason for going to any gig.... Im all for the craic that goes with a festival & all, but I know people who went last year and never left the campsite... others who can't remember a thing... and some who saw about two bands all weekend. To me, thats a waste of 120 quid (sterling). Hell, its their money and the weekend is what they make of it and if they had a good time (the ones I know did), then fair f*cks to them. But Im there to see the bands... and for any additional fun..;)

    Babychambell:

on mylo - bought his cd and loved it - went to see him play a dj set in temple bar music centre. I can safely say it was the single worst dj set I've ever been to (and thats about 8 years worth). I was soooo dissapointed I was fuming by the end. He played tunes that werent even dance music (nothing wrong with that if they were any good)

eg. he finished the set on worst low I've ever heard, with "maneater" - not the nelly furtado one either - the "woh-here she comes - watch out or she'll chew you up" - whats up with that? I can only assume he's better live, maybe he'll play some tunes off the album (he only played one that night). Might have just been an "off" night for him or something but it was so so so chronically bad it put me off going to see him ever again

Kind of reminded me of fat boy slim though - the way sometimes he plays really **** "pub" type tunes in the middle of a set to try and be "clever" or something - very annoying indeed.

I've been to see felix loads - he's always great. judging by the bands you like there I would suggest you at least go and check out manu chao - even for a few tunes - if you dont like him, leave - but imho he's the best thing at it.

Electric Picnic has a better line up I think but I still wouldn't miss Oxegen. Probably the best weekend of the year, a boozy weekend in a field with lots of good festival bands. Can't wait!

he's great live, plays the guitar and whatnot, i saw him play his album show though so he wasn't "experimenting" with throwing in random songs. (only 2 many djs can get away with that really). Having said that the dj set i have of his is good properly mixed dance, his own songs are mixed in throughout and theres no messin' with ****ty tunes!
yea i will check manu chao out, anything iv heard about him is good, ill do a little research on the ol limewire and see what i thinks! thanks for the tip.
