Spain vs Tunisia

What, no WC threads today?
The other Group H game is still going on,
Ukraine are currently leading Saudi Arabia 3-0, more like the Ukraine we were expecting rather than the one that was humbled by the Spaniards last week.
Luis Aragones is set to name that same side that beat the Ukraine 4-0, while Tunisia are also set to name an unchanged side.
Was Spain's terrific performance a once-off, or have they finally copped themselves on in a major tournament?
I'll go for a comfortable Spain win, Tunisia were not very convincing in their opening game against Saudi Arabia.

can't see past a spain win here,
its one of the underdog vs. major team games where i can't see the underdogs making any sort of upset (now i've gone and done it haven't i?).

And as expected... Wait a minute Tunisia have scored :)

Maybe they'll 'do an Ireland' and hang on for an historic win after a very early goal? :)

    G'wan Tunisia!

Still expect Spain to win though.

****ing hell, nice play, but Puyol!! He made a mistake!!

Btw, what a great first save from Casillas! Where were the defenders for the rebound!

Jesus, Garcia is having a mare. 3 times now he has ****ed up when he shouldn't have. But he's getting into the positions to score at least.
He's turned it around a little bit, with two very nice passes.

p.s. I love this Tunisian coach :) Talk about heart

Garcia hasn't done badly, but he should be making more of a contribution for the role he is playing. Raul or Reyes should replace him in the 2nd half. Likewise Senna is doing a decent job in the centre but he isn't contributing enough to pushing Spain forward, and should be replaced with Fabregas/Iniesta.

Great effort from Tunisia so far. I'm glad to see the team I got in the Office World Cup is doing me proud. It mightn't be a foregone conclusion yet!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20,617 ✭✭✭✭PHB

Yeh I'd agree with that, Garcia for Raul, Senna for Iniesta

    Xavi is an incredible midfielder

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 20,346 ✭✭✭✭KdjaCL

Senna is the DMF with xavi and alonso meant to create, can also see Reyes or Raul coming on for Garcia hes the free role and isnt using it right. Granted Tunisia and Arsenals :p Trabelsi doing a fine job of defending.

Garcia is one of the few brighter spots in the Spanish side. He's getting about and trying which is more than can be said for some esp in the wretched defence. They do need width so I guess Little Luis may get sacrificed.

Still its good to see the real Spain at a last. ;)

    Mike.

Joaquin and Reyes on the bench, I expect to see one of those in the second half.
I'm sure we will see Raul, I'm not sure he gives Spain anything better then Gracia/Villa/Torres give.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,010 ✭✭✭besty

    Fabregas on for Senna
    Raul on for Garcia

    Garcia is off for Fabregas.

Is it just me or is Raul more of a waste of space then a help to the team?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 10,921 ✭✭✭✭Pigman II

Shouldn't the spanish manager have got a yellow card there for inciting a booking?

Tunisia defending well. Really getting in tight on the Spanish and putting in some good tackles (even inside their own box). Spain on the other hand don't seem too hungry to get the ball back when the don't have it.

Memories of a famous Ray Houghton goal after 8 mins and a famous Irish victory over Italy are flooding back here, couldnt decide what score spain would win this so put on 4 bets 1-0, 2-0, 3-0, and 4-0. now Im shouting for Tunisia?

    Scheiser

That's why the call him el Rey

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20,617 ✭✭✭✭PHB

Raul has been bright at all points during this world cup that he has played, he really deserves that goal.

I think we might see two more goals in this game.

    Garcia was replaced by Raul.
Senna was replaced by Fabregas, pushing Alonso deeper.

Trio of subs combined there to great effect.

Cesc arrives late in the box forcing a save from the keeper for the third time, that's the difference between himself and Senna. I'll surprised if he doesn't start against the Saudis at this rate.

    TORRES!

    Assist by Fabregas.

    AH FFS. Torres 2-1
What was the keeper playing at?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20,617 ✭✭✭✭PHB

I don't think Garcia and Senna will get back into this team now

Rights lads, you can leave it at that. I stuck a fiver on spain to win 2-1 at half time. thought 4-1 was generous but didnt fancy stickign on too much just in case. Was gonna do €20.

Sure you might as well do 3-1 now. That way you should be covered.

I really like spain but 2-2 would be nice aswell. Have €5 on at 20/1.:D

Pigheads quest to stamp out the despicable art of After Timing is proving a much more difficult task than he anticipated. Its reached epidemic proportions at this stage. Yellow Card for SteKelly.

    waaaaay ahead of you. :) €5 @ 11/5

The odds must have changed as I was putting on the bet 4-1 went on at 11/1. 2-2 went on at 22/1.

    Pighead should stop embarrassing himself!

Thats fcuking it. Red Card. On your way son.
That was the equivalent of a throat high tackle with studs showing and then petulantly kicking the ball away. Early Bath for SteKelly.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,010 ✭✭✭besty

What a save. Torres should have buried that.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 38,247 ✭✭✭✭Guy:Incognito

    heheheh.

If it lessens the offence I was only trying to dump the €20 I forgot was in my ladbrokes a/c.

So to summarise. On the back on the money I didnt know I had I will win somthing unless it finishes a different score to 2-1,2-2,3-1 or 4-1.:)

Boo that 3rd goal means I get the lowest return of any of the bets.

C'mon raul 1 more at the death.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,184 ✭✭✭✭Pighead

    Pighead should stop embarrassing himself!
Pepe LeFrits should mind his own beeswax.
Important win for Spain tonight as a loss would have left them in serious danger of coming 2nd in the group.
