    Hi,

My signal is really poor on sky. Is there a way to change the transponder thats used. Will this even help ?

I got a quad LNB installed and I think its hitting off the roof so when it rains I get a fcuekd up signal. I need to move my dish but in the mean time Im hoping a change in transponder will help things.

    thanks,

Your 'Sky' is received by your dish/LNB from numerous different transponders on the various satellites co-located at 28.2°/28.5°E over the equator.

    You can't change them.

Sounds like the quad LNB has caused your dish to be misaligned (they are heavier than single LNBs and tend to make the arm 'droop').

If it was "hitting off Roof" you would get nothing. It just needs the fine tuning of dish up/down east/west and LNB "twist" (The LNB twists or squews in holder which odly some installers don't align).

I would be suprised if the lnb skew caused a problem. Having installed sky dishes for a few years now, i never once found the lnb skew ever made a difference on the meter reading.

Makes no difference to level, but a marked difference to quality!

Basically the signal quality will drop if the LNB isn't skewed properly which can cause pixellation or break up.

The signal strenght would still be good, but the quality of the signal would not be so.

have to agree - recently installed a Thomson quad at home, to facilite a 2nd hand pace v2 40gb Sky+ box - signal strength is 80% or so but now im only getting about 40% - 50% quality - sometimes cant get the performance chanell and a few others are pixelated - so i have to adjust the LNB up/down to improve it then watty? im sure i didnt move the dish out of alignment...

The focus of the quand may not be 100% identical. Also it may bend down arm slightly requiring dish tilted FORWARD slightly (oddly, but dish is a mirror, so if LNB moved arm down slightly and dish doesn't, then the view is pointing higher!).

Anyrate some fine tuning of alignment is needed while watching QUALITY bar. Move slightly and wait about 1s to 2s to see quality change. It does not respond as quick as level

Thats exactely my problem. The moment I got it installed the guy told me the signal quality was bad. Its right down, only one bar!

So, only solution is to move the dish I guess. I dont think there is room to move the LNB because the quad is bigger so its tipping the roof.

Well the meter used (Horizon) measured both signal level and quality.
And i never found it made a difference to either.
I agree that in theory it should (which is why i always set it correctly in any case), but in practice, i never found it made a difference.
