What is everyones opinion of the show. After all the hype leading up to its premiere on RTE One is it worth your time. Do you agree with the comparisons between ER and Scrubs.

Of course it's going to be compared to them but I don't think it's at all like Scrubs and it's quite different to ER. I like it but I don't need to watch it religiously (unlike Lost!). I think there's too much emphasis on Meredith - I know she's like the main character but she really annoys me!

I agee Meridth can be annoying, but George is very tasty indeed! I think the dynamics in it are quite good. I'm addicted already after 3 episodes.

    I was completely underwhelmed.

Who's comparing it to Scrubs?!

Really like 'Grey's Anatomy' myself.. very well written and funny show. Completely washes over your head of course.. but after approx 37 episodes, there's very episodes i was unimpressed with... so it's quite consistent which is something you see less and less of in TellyLand.

Stick with it.. it's only 3 episodes in!

Love it. But that's after seeing the first two seasons, not just the first three episodes on RTE.

I like Meredith a lot. It's McDreamy I have problems with...

The Irsih media e.g. The Dave Fanning Show and MArty in the Morning have compared it to Scrubs stupidly as people would have gone in watching the programme with completely different expectations.

Personally, RTE could have picked a better show for Sundays at 9.30

Scrubs compared it to Scrubs. In a recent episode someone mentions Grey's Anatomy and JD says something along the lines of "I love Grey's Anatomy. It's like someone saw our lives and made a tv show about it".
    BURN :D

Only seen the first three epis on RTE and it looks like it has potential.

As to comparing it to Scrubs and ER its probably pitching itself somewhere between the two. Not as comedic as Scrubs not as serious, dramatic or as ludicrous as ER recently (well last five seasons I supose:rolleyes: )

  • Moderators, Society & Culture Moderators Posts: 30,661 Mod ✭✭✭✭Faith

It's like Scrubs without the comedy and ER without the heartbreak.

Great show, though. I really like it. Mostly because Dr. Shepherd is so hot, tbh...

What's the watercooler buzz in your workplace. Its nowhere near the heights of Lost or Des.Housewives in mine

Our work doesn't have a watercooler!

Watercooler buzz is phrase as to describe what people watched on TV the previous night. It could easily happen during a mid-morning break

It does have Katherine Heigl - I try to ignore the rest.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,836 ✭✭✭Vokes

It bugged me for ages where Id seen Katherine Heigl before. Finally got around to checking IMDB, and sure enough she was in Under Siege 2 as Rybe. Quality :D

Love the show, nice new take in a medical setting. Excellent casting with the exception of Meredith. She may be pretty but talk about limited range!! She could pick up a few tips from Katherine H who nails comedic and dramatic scenes every time.

That's my only quibble about the show.

    Saintly.

From what I have seen It seems to be the new ER. Doctors starting out in the world. etc.

Like all medical shows I suppose.

But tonight the guy who shot himself in the head with the Nail Gun was very EResq IMO.

It isn't a bad thing to be like ER. It has the same feel as when ER started out first.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 255 ✭✭AliasFan47

Yeah I thought the ratings weren't great seeing as the show got so much press coverage and hype.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 255 ✭✭AliasFan47

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 887 ✭✭✭Rockerette

Living have already shown season 2 episodes 1-5, They are starting from 2x06 on the 31st August.

Those five episodes were supposed to be part of series 1 but were held back in the US and became the start of season 2.

I see S2 is available from Amazon.com from the 12th September. I am going to get ahead of the game and buy from the US.

I think the show has its moments but some storylines are a bit stupid! In last sundays ep on rte 1, there was a syphilis outbreak among the staff, I mean all those surgeons, doctors etc. can't / don't even use contraception?! Not to mention the fact that they're all sleeping with each other... totally stupid.
The characters are all cardboard cutouts and one dimensional- Meredith is such a goody goody smarty pants, the chinese one is the tough girl with the 'i don't care' attitude, george is the mommy's boy nerd, izzy is the pretty and 'cool' one. Er is better for drama and scrubs is better for the laughs.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 255 ✭✭AliasFan47

Well said Madge. I wonder if thats the general opinion? The whole ER and Scrubs comparisons made my unknowledgable Irish media outlets killed the show in my opinion as it set people up for a different type of show...

I think the series is freat but missed three weeks while digging in Roscommon (crappy telly) and i missed so much! Any chance that the season 1 box set is available in the shops here yet?

Yeah.. it is actually. Available online or in your local Xtra-Vision for about €30 i think.

I got the R1 version for $19.99 from amazon and the 2nd series for $42. Worked out to be less than €60 in total incls postage.

I bought the season 1 3-disk R2 box set and it has 14 episodes on it, not the nine that it's supposed to have! John R's explanation covers that, though.

Double bill tonight but single episodes from next week.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 291 ✭✭pokerwidow

I watched the double bill on Living TV @ 5.00 today (lazy Sunday). The same two episode were on RTE  . I was really looking forward to 4 episodes on one day. How sad am I? Anyway Living TV advertise the Sunday shows as catch ups so season 2 must be starting soon.
