    I don't know if anyone has come across this prob but.....

    I'm having problems booting from a maxtor sata 2 300gb HD, on restart from windows the pc can't find the maxtor drive, but finds its fine if I do a hard start, it seems to be a time issue because I've installed a 20 gig IDE drive to boot windows from and then it finds the Maxtor drive.
    Its not that big a deal now that I'm using the IDE drive to boot from, but I'd just like to know whats with the sata2 set up ??:confused:

    I've heard of this before the not finding Maxtor drive at boot although my memory fails me as to the solution.

    I think it was a combo of;
    Bios update to the motherboard
    Forcing SATA150 mode on the Maxtor HD
    Possible firmware update to the Maxtor HD (may not be needed)
    Increasing the IDE detection delay in the bios (not a 100% on that one)

    Yeah I'm having probs flashing the bios on the motherboard, its a Epox motherboard and it came with a utility to flash the bios from windows but where the pc is I don't have access to the internet. Doh!

    How do you force the HD to SATA150 mode ?

    The Epox Magic Bios is just a front end to the Winflash program which does the actual flashing you should find it in the same directory just run and feed it the new bios you downloaded from a net connected PC and it will do the rest.

    As for forcing SATA 150 there are a variety of ways;
    1) The feature is present on the HD via jumpers.
    2) In can be done though the bios (depends on bios vendor etc)
    3) Can be done though vendor IDE/SATA driver in Windows.
