I bought an e-book a while back from http://www.paintyourownguitar.com/ and the guy who runs it sent me an e-mail of various guitar kits he'll be getting in July. Thought some of you's might be interested. Pricing will be around $225 per kit.

The book is great, makes it all very simple. The only problem is that some of the product brands used cant be bought over here (like Krylon spraypaint) but its not too hard to find suitable replacements.

The guys been going on about these for months in his update emails and he's always seemed like a standup guy, helping me out with any probs I encountered etc so Id say they are for real (or at least Id like to think so, that Les Paul looks savage!)

Damn that Les paul looks excellent, although not too sure bout that neck.

Checked out the harmony central forum and the whole scam thing seems to be one guys opinion, also saw this which might be of some interest.
FYI: I sent an email to John asking about the LP style guitar. Here are the highlights:

How much assembly is requires to complete the kit? is the neck
    already glued in?

It's already assembled and that's necessary for them to properly set
it up, do the fretwork, etc.

What wood is the kit composed of? True Les Paul construction
    (mahogany/maple top), etc?

No maple top - just mahogany. Maybe down the road we'll do a maple
top, but for now, most people wanna paint it solid colors.

What is the county of origin of these kits? Korea?

    Made overseas

It appears from the photos that the Les Paul body and headstock are
accurate to true Gibson shapes? Is this going to change for the actual kit?

It'll stay the same until we get the cease and desist letters.

For the money, these guitars cannot be beat.

So there you have it. I doubt it's a scam. Maybe the guitars aren't really that nice, but consider this:
last year I bought a korean "Wolf" brand Les Paul copy for $330. It's a very nice guitar, plays wonderful, I really don't have any issues with it. Ok, the pickups did suck, but nothing that GFS couldn't fix. So now imagine that your buying these guitars in bulk from the factory, WITH NO FINISH. They've gotta be dirt cheap, so considering that, I don't think $225 that John is asking is too good to be true.
ANyway, I'm seriously considering getting one.

If that Kramer had a neck pickup aswell, that'd be nice, i'd love paint it in Leopard Print, although that might be a bit difficult.

Considering that the kits are that cheap and are copies, i doubt the quality would be too good, you'd have to get some better pickups at least, no point in having a cool looking guitar if it sounds like shít.

and that single volume pot looks lonely all by itself, it needs a tone control to keep it company

Id be more interested in just buying the book and buying an old beat up but decent sounding guitar for cheap and painting it up good
