So what happens if you eat mentos after drinking a bottle of diet coke?

The gum arabic in many sweets cause liquids to instantly lose their surface
tension. Coke & Pepsi contain a lot of gas - and the only thing holding
it all in is the surface tension - remove that and it can all rapidly
form into bubbles and WHOOSH!! :-) LOL, who says chemistry serves
no practical purpose?

Im going to stop off in the garage on the way home and get some mentos and diet coke just to see if that really works, I will then carry out the experiment in my flatmates room so that nothing of mine gets destoryed.

Inspired by this thread, I tried it 5 mins. ago. I used 2 litres Diet Coke and a full pack of Mint Mentos. It went pretty well. I got a strong fountain 3-4 metres high.

Next I have to try it with Pepsi, with fruit Mentos (which I'm eating now, yum) and with smaller holes, to get bigger fountains. Another time.

We've tried this quite a few times. It works best with a whole packet of mentos and a litre bottle, also works with fizzy lemonade.

We put some mentos in those dissolvable washing machine packets, put it in the bottle, closed it, we thought it might blow up. Hasn't worked for us yet.
We also put a bottle in a plastic bag, that was funny.

We got them all on tape, and we do it around Stephen's Green sometimes aswell.
