Great clips. The cage rage fight is indeed a classic example of how exciting things can be in MMA.

I really enjoy the second clip. It's sad that Peter Smit (not smith as it says in the clip) was gunned down in a brawl. He was a great Kyokushin practitioner and always happy to step into the the Muay Thai ring too (as are most kyokushin fighters). Great instructor, great fighter he's sorely missed in the Kyokushin world.

It's such a strange mentality in the first fight when they are both just standing there. How knackered would you have to be to just stand there with one of those dudes in front of you... I can't get my head around it, it was like a mutual consent to just chill for a sec...

That 2nd fight was awesome. very scrappy... thats the way I like them.

So he was a karate man?

he went right at the Thai from the 1st second. you could see the thai was really unsure. see over here they like to start real slow and I rarely see any action until round 3. (I see fights most weeks here, real ones too out in rings set up in the paddy fields). they like to start slow and feel each other out.

This was different. action from word go. You can see the thai, getting mad a bit and lashing in leg kick after leg kick.

It was interesting too, seeing the spinning back kick working. great show!

ok we see there is a big size and weight difference.

I would love to see more good brawls like that.

Yep. He's something of a legend in Holland (even before his death last year). He was gunned down in a street argument in Rotterdam (of course no one knows the in's and out's of it). Shot in the chest between 5 and 9 times at point blank range.

    Quote from Article:

"On Monday, 15th August 2005 Kyokushinkai karate legend Peter ‘Hurricane’ Smit from Holland was shot dead in Rotterdam following a verbal argument. He was hit 5 to 9 times at point blank range.

He will be buried on Saturday 20th August 2005 in the Essenhof in Dordrecht, Holland. Peter Smit is survived by a wife and three children. Many mourn his death.

Peter Smit became a legendary fighter by winning numerous Dutch, European and Worldtitles in Kyokushinkai karate, Kick boxing and Muay Thai during the late 1980´s. His fight against Hiroki Kurosawa during the 1987 Kyokushinkai World Tournament has been compared to the boxing match Muhammed Ali vs George Forman. Today the fight still sets a high watermark for true Kyokushinkai Spirit. He was the first non-Thai to actually win a world title in Bangkok itself, by knocking out Changphuak Kiasongrit in the second round. Peter Smit himself considered his 10th round knock out over non other than Rob Kaman to be the highlight of his career. Peter Smit was forced to stop his fighting career after his ankle was fractured in a car accident."

That article was sent to me for another site that I used to run. They didn't know that I'd trained with him and his students in Holland...

The clip above was one of his first Thai fights. Was a bit of a mad man to say the least. My heart stopped in my chest when I found out he was dead. Still, that's life I guess....:(

I would love to see that Hiroki Kurosawa fight he did!

I was impressed how we worked as I mentioned things like the back kick into the fight. Many people tell me, you cannot use those techqiues effective against Muay Thai, but I never really believe them.

If you're well trained they will work. I noticed that if you do any technique that is outside a thais "box" or style, it really throws them off.

yeah Peter Smit looks a tough tough fighter!

    any more clips???
