    Good for you Baz.

I gave up for 18 months and met Wifey during that time!

You're right about pubs/clubs being boring when you're sober. I still don't go to the pub that often and when I do, I take the car so don't drink then.

you sure you're off the booze? that post reads like you were drunk when you wrote it!

Snap, off it a couple of months myself now. Just realised one day that I was in the pub more days than not and decided to quit all together rather than cut down. Social life does take a bit of a down turn. Same as you, late night boards most nights. I recommend internet poker for passing the time when your mates are out getting locked.

On the up side though you do notice definite health benefits after a while. If I can do it anyone can because my life basically consisted of work and pub until a few months ago. Still looking for a social alternative but not tempted to slip back into old habits.

Going out for to a resteraunt and/or seeing a film or play was what I did off the drink usually. I found that my friends were well up for non-alcholic activities as a break from the pub scene now and then especially during the week and such.

To the OP, fair play. Did it for a few months last year. Slipped back into the old habits now though.

You can have her Mr. Ruu, I'm quite happy with my Miriam O Callaghan. Way better than your smelly Ann Doyle.

Good luck, I may lay off it for a while too, at some point. Depends if things keep going as they are. Pubs are fine sober, avoid clubs...

i was beer man ... not really a spirits man ... becks NA is my poison now -- its actually not bad -- take loads of ice with it -- drinking coke and water out is difficult --- i thought i'd save loads of extra cash .. but just spend extra on clothes, goodies, bills (i pay them on time now ;)

as i'm also single , i do miss the dutch courage with the ladies . but then again maybe my standards are improving v:cool:

I haven't drank in years. I tend to stay away from pubs, listening to drunk people isn't fun after 30 minutes. On the odd occasion that I'd go to a club or function and stay till closing, especially when smoking was still allowed (I smoke) I'd have a wopping headache the next morning and sometimes feel groggy, almost as if I had a hangover. Not sure what it was, too smokey an atmosphere, loud music, disengaged my brain cells from throwing my large bulk around the dance floor....

Pubs and clubs aren't boring sober. You just don't know how to have fun sober, that's all.
Though I admit house parties are much more entertaining, but that's always true.

Stayed off the beer myself tonight which is virtually unheard of for me for a friday night. I usually take a month off a year though with rather mixed results, some years I go the whole month whereas others I might end up drinking 3/4 times during that month. Do find night-clubs and pubs a lot more of a chore when sober though I'm not a big fan of loud places where people are packed very closely together anyway (other than gigs) I tind the drink tends to lessen the urge to kill the fiftieth person that drunkenly bounces off me.

I'm considering quitting drink for a while... although I'm thinking quitting drinking in pubs is a good compromise. It means I can still have a few cans at home (I live in town.) Will save money at least and I always feel cans are healthier anyway...

    ew............the term 'Wifey'???

not even 'the wifey', she's just now simply called wifey.
i hope she drinks..she'll need some solace if she's being refered to as that.

I gave up drinking 62 days ago!!! on every 1st day (11 21 31 41 51 61 ) The boy gives me a badge... he usually has a pint in his hand at the time but still its dead cute. I still have a laugh when I'm out but its better the next day. might stay off it for as long as possible... or just till i go to spain in august!!

This is my first weekend off the sauce was down the pub earlier had a few 7ups no problems still had a bit of a laugh with the gang. All going out later to another bar then clubbing later i have to go as its a family do. Think I'll pass on the clubbing part though (i know it would do my head in sober) but yeah seems to be working out ok so far

I once stayed off it for 8 years. Then a sister got married a few years back and I went back on it that night.
I heard a great quote one time: If you dont drink, when you wake up in the morning that's the best you're going to feel for the day.

Used to always give up the booze for two months before my exams and during my exams, always felt great during that time. These days I only drink about once a week or less frequently.

Thinking of giving up altogether as well as giving up the chocolate caramel digestives as I think I'm in danger of looking like the worlds first pregnant man if I continue!!:o

Time to dust off the trainers and begin some early morning forays to the park!
