I have been researching a good bit about my new build this Christmas and was just wondering what everyone thought of this so far: (drum roll)

I realise some of this is very vague but untill conroe, vista, directx10 comes out there not a lot of buying research i can do yet.
so i'm looking at this as a platform to build my system

    Case: Antec Performance One P180
    PSU: Seasonic S12 600W
Conroe processor (or some variant there of)
    Motherboard to support Conroe
    Directx10 GPU
    etc

Should the Seasonic be okay for all the next generation of stuff? it should be okay case wise (theres a connection issue with some psu's in the P180 case)

anything on the horizon i should be aware of???

    any suggestions welcome
    thanks

    PSU should be just fine.

Just so you know, the Antec P180 doesn't look as nice in reality as it does on the nice shiny graphic that its retailers use.
I'd reccommend This one works great for my recent build but I'm not sure how well it will handle Conroes

Your PSU selection is fine there isn't anything special required for coming hardware.

Nothing else really, Core 2 CPU's will be supported by Intel, ATI & NVIDIA chipsets so you will have a wide choice, you could pick up some DDR2 which is what will be used for system RAM around 2GB would do nicely.

Graphics wise for Direct-X 10 as I mentioned in a similar thread you are going to be waiting till at least around November which is when NVIDIA will hard launch their DX10 GeForce 8 series most likely the 8800GTX & 8800GT, lower end parts will have a staggered entry into the market like the GeForce 7 series.

ATI are rumoured to be planning a similar launch time frame. Of course under WinXP these cards will basically behave as souped up DX9.0c cards as DX10 is only available to Vista.

    Thanks for the replies.

Everything there is really subject to change depending on what comes out in the next few months! I hear an updated Seasonic M12 is coming out soon so I'll see what that's like.

I really liked the look of the P180 but I haven't actually seen on in true life if you know what I mean. I was looking for a quiet, well-ventilated case with a good bit of space and the P180 seemed to meet all the requirements
