if you got the handset can you post your comments on it please?

Ya, Id be interested to know if its any good too. The phones specs are pretty good especially for the price, a 240 x 320 pixels screen.

    http://www.gsmarena.com/sharp_550sh-1474.php

I’m tempted, but I’ve only recently switched from Vodafone ReadytoGo to Meteors prepay and its cut my monthly spend almost in half. Still, I could do with a new phone and free 3G tv till September could tempt me back. I can’t find any reviews of it on any of the main phone websites/forums though, so Mayto let us know what you make of it.

    Amazing spec for the price...!

Vodafone to offer tv channels over 3G
    http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2054943249

    http://www.vodafone.ie/live/mobiletv/index.jsp

Newspapers during the week said its gonna be free for all vodafone users till september, cant find mention of that on the vodafone site now though.

    free tv till september 1st...

then prices dont seem too bad actually:
    http://vodafone.ie/live/3g/charges/ent/index.jsp

might get one for going on holidays up the country

My 2 main question... tv quality as good as in the ads on tv?
and whats the battery life just watching the tv?

:) thanks in advance for any feedback

Got one of these for my son last evening €99 from shop. It's a nice phone. The salesman said the free tv is only free for two months. The tv is not working yet on his one . They couldn't sign him up last night for some reason, they told me to call back toady to have it registered.

Going back now will update on developements

the picture quality from the camera is excellent .

    [edit]

just back from vodafone Tv is working fine , excellent quality,.

It appears to be an excellent deal.[/edit]

sounds good so, muppet. im wondering if there easy to make sim free also?
il have to think do i need to replace my fantastic little e770v .

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 854 ✭✭✭mayto

well impressed with this phone.real easy to use with good pics and videos.i have a 512 mb transflash card from my motorola e770v which i will put in it.sourced a usb cable for it for 8 euro http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Sharp-GX30i-GX30-GX32-USB-Data-Cable-Ringtones-Soft-UK_W0QQitemZ9743436071QQcategoryZ106419QQtcZphotoQQcmdZViewItem
.have to wait for usb cable so i can mess around with themes,mp3 etc as cannot find my bluetooth adapter.its narrower and lighter than the e770v ,about same length.for 89 euro online with 80 credit its a bargain.

Just had a look at the details on vodafone.ie and the phone seems to have a very short battery life compared to the other phones available. Can anyone tell me what it's like?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 642 ✭✭✭red_fox

I just did a quick search and the details here and also the sharp website say 370 hours standby time, as opposed to the tiny 75 hours on vodafone. Someone in vodafone missed out on the 3 for 375 methinks!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 854 ✭✭✭mayto

@#Elites ,it comes with headphones and will play mp3's.like it a lot more than the e770v which had some things which annoyed me,like no auto keylock ,had to set alarm every night.

    damn it out of stock

At what stage did it say it was out of stock? I completed the transaction and was told it would be delivered within 24 hours as of 8pm on Monday night.

    Nice one by the way!

Since this is a 3g phone, if you have a student travel card (or know somebody with one like I do :) ) you can get €50 off instead of the usual €10. You have to go through the studenttravelcard.ie website and login! First time you click on the vodafone link it'll ask you to login again so just do that and it's fine. And you still get the €80 credit!!!

    Now that's a bargain!

\edit It was out of stock this morning but it's in stock now!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 642 ✭✭✭red_fox

#Elites, the phone can only use up to 512mb micro SD (also called transflash if I remember correctly). And yes to the €80, it'll ask you are you an existing customer and just say yes!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 642 ✭✭✭red_fox

    From the horses mouth: http://www.sharp-phone.com/faqs/faqs.php?countryid=1&modelcountryid=40

as regards my "contact", I'll have to ask him, I can't just be handing out his login details over the internet :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 642 ✭✭✭red_fox

I'm trying to see if there's a way around giving his login details, like saving a basket or something, I'll text him in a minute for ya if that doesn't work out, it's worth €40 after all :)

As for the colour I think it's only in black here, and it's only the front of the phone that's white on the white one either.

I just sent you a PM with details but I don't want to abuse his account so the rest of ye who want it will have to grab somebody elses student!!! They're as common as flies though, I'm sure we all have a cousin! ;)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 861 ✭✭✭p~b

if anyone can help me out in getting the phone for 40 i'd be forever thankful

    thanks

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 642 ✭✭✭red_fox

Just to clear up a little misunderstanding, the discount is €50 from the full €99, or the way I looked at it, €40 from the online price of €89. Either way, with the student discount it's €49. :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 861 ✭✭✭p~b

still a great price, cant go wrong with those specs

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 861 ✭✭✭p~b

i never thought i'd see the day that vodafone and bargain were in the same line lol

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 854 ✭✭✭mayto

records videos alright.if you order before 3pm you should have it delivered the next day by swiftpost.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 861 ✭✭✭p~b

yes i think it has Video capture, playback, download & streaming

it depends, since your in dublin its very likely it will arrive tomorrow but as you know things are usually late

I followed your instructions red_fox but i keep getting on the vodafone site

' This product is not available at the moment, please try again (5005).

You must be logged in to www.studenttravelcard.ie to access this service.'

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,153 ✭✭✭ronano

Once you get that to that screen just click the studenttravelcard.ie link and sign in again (I've no idea why you have to do it twice  ) and go to vodafone link again and it'll work the second time.

#Elites helped you out but that's in case anyone else has the same problem.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 642 ✭✭✭red_fox

Not yet, but I only ordered it at about eight last night, just checked the tracking online and it's 'picked'. I expect it at my door in the morning and in my hands when I get home :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 844 ✭✭✭eirlink

Mine arrived this lunch time and i must say this is a very nice phone and excellent value...indeed a bargain.(thanks to OP for this)

One point to note the €80 credit is spread over 7 months at €10 per month plus the initial €10 loaded on the sim that comes with it (if ordered)

A surprise was the inclusion of a SD adaptor module lurking in the bottom of the box and upon closer inspection there was a 64 mini SD card as well!!
I was not expecting a card?

the screen is beautiful and crisp especially when you turn up the brightness to full.

On to the live tv...took a little time to get this going but boy was it worth it.The video and audio were excellent for the time i had it running ..about 20 mins..and then its a little hard on the eyes so turned it off.the picture was excellent,as was audio 90% of time and only broke up to buffer when i moved the handset about considerably.when it was left on the counter it never faultered.amazing stuff really!
I like this feature but wonder would i pay for it when the free trial is up?

off to charge it up now.

Overall xlnt value ...cost me €9 ....thanks again OP..

    ok lets try this

    >open vodafone live (press button top right over red one)
    >scroll down to "new Service:FREE sky Mobile TV"
    >press button in middle of the silver square
    >you should now have either a choice of channels OR a licence agreement
(if it the page full of text this is the sky licence agreement..READ IT FIRST)
    >when you agree then it should bring you to the channel screen mentioned above
    >select your channel and IMPORTANT click on "GET CLIP". and enjoy

it would appear that you can only get to the sky/tv stuff THROUGH vodafone live button and not through the entertainment icon in the main menu?

    any feedback welcome

The 6230i is €89 now? People are raving about this product because of the value, your phone costs €100 more so whether or not it is better is immaterial.

u legend it worked like a charm. even vodafone couldnt solve it for me. thanx a mil

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 68,317 ✭✭✭✭seamus

Can anyone comment on the battery life?

The site on one of the first few pages mention 270 hours. However, that same site also listed my current phone (SE V800) as 240 hours. Which is about twice the maximum I've ever gotten out of mine.

So does it seem good or will you be charging it up every 3-4 days?

i just picked up one too and got it today, thank you OP :D
    quick question tho:
is it possible to just load the SD card that came with it onto my computer (i have a card reader but dont have bluetooth or usb data cable) and just put some of my video clips onto the card then load them up on the phone ? ive tried with some small video clips and they didnt appear on the phone, ill assume its some kinda copyright protection , a way to get people to only download stuff from vodafone live or do they need to be converted to a particular format, if so does a avi/mpg to .? exist ?

/Edit the format is .3gp so can probably find a convertor to that

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 844 ✭✭✭eirlink

the 3gpp format is a 3rd generation partnership project format designed around 3g and its appliations with mobiles

this might be what you need
    http://www.tomdownload.com/multimedia_design/video/3gpp_converter_avi_mpeg_to_3g2_3gp.htm

I have loaded vids and pics onto the mini SD card in the phone and got them to work on XP pro but i think you need to download the above AVI to 3gpp converter to get it to work from pc to phone

Let me know hoe you get on qnd if u fail we will try it in lab...not tonite though!

    Sharp Unlock Code Instructions
    Model : All Sharp

    01 - From front screen type *01763*6371#
02 - The handset will reset back to the main screen
    03 - Press M button.
04 - Scroll to Settings and press SELECT.
05 - Scroll to Security and press SELECT.
06 - Scroll to MEP locks and press SELECT.
07 - Enter your Handset Code (the default code is 0000) and press OK.
08 - Scroll to Network and press SELECT.
09 - Scroll to Deactivate and press SELECT.
10 - Enter Unlock Code and press OK.
11 - Handset should then display DONE and be unlocked.

Dont blame me if it doesn't work.

Obviously you dont get your credit but its still a bargain. (Sell the credit to an existing vodafone customer)
