Channel 4, 5 & 6

    Hi,

I'm very impressed with everyone's satellite knowledge here - I only found out yesterday that I could get ITV channels through my Sky dish (with the help of the information on here). I now have a selection of various ITV regions through Adding Channels.

I've read a lot of the posts here and am I correct in assuming that for now I wouldn't be able to do the same for Channel 4 and 5 from the Uk as well as the new Channel 6 from Ireland?

I did manage to follow the same procedure for adding channels for Channel 4 and it did show in my list of Other Channels but when I selected to view it came up with a message 'This channel is not available' - similar to the one I get for Film Four as I'm not a subscriber.

So do I need to purchase an alternate card to get these other 3 channels? I have a Sky package (paid monthly) and no aerial. Should I get one from UK? Or is there another way of setting up channels?

    Thanks!

When you get bored with the limitations of a Sky box and it's ADD CHANNELS feature, you might consider a modest (less than €150) investment in a FTA receiver. LIDL and Maplins are often the cheapest.

in short, your Sky dish is looking at a fixed location of 28.2 degrees.
you only get what's available there.

there's hundreds more tv channels waiting to be discovered.

I like sports TV. Some good free ones are Planeta Sport, RAI Sport, Sportitalia, DSF Sport, Dubai Sport.

I got sky+ installed recently and the engineer gave me all the itv and extra bbc channels and channel4 too. He said that it would be switched on in a few weeks. Anyone heard anything similar?

Channel 4 is unlikely to be available free to air before 2008 at the earliest

Unless you can source a FTV/Freesat card from the UK you wont get it in the Republic

I would say the installer was probably talking about film four going fta/ftv. no guarantee that even that will be available without a uk viewing card either.

Yes, I think there was some confusion over FilmFour going FTA, and rumours abound that C4 was also going FTA.

But, from what I am aware of, C4 will not be FTA the same time as FilmFour. I'd agree with Ulsterman1690 in saying 2008 if ever.

You can get FTA cards on ebay for about €32 - well worth it!
