This site is very useful. There's links to accommodation, restaurant reviews and tips for tourists.

Nice is great, but there are plenty of nice places along the Cote d'Azur.

Wifey's family have a house on Quai des Etats Unis, and it's a great base for exploring the area (but to rent it is probably outside your budget!). Apart from Vieux Nice (the old town) and the harbour, there's not much to Nice. Especially with the tramworks going on. My favourite restaurant in Nice is Voglia, at the end of Cours Selaya and a few doors from the Opera. Amazing pizzas and huge pasta dishes. The place has a real buzz.

Other places to go are Villefranche and Menton, which both have lovely beaches and marinas. If you're into markets and fake designer gear, try Ventemille just over the border in Italy, but beware, French Police sometimes do spot checks on traffic crossing back over the border at Menton to confiscate fakes. Better to take the train if you're going there, or use the Autoroute.

Monaco is fine, but it's crowded with tourists who want to people-watch. Because of this, the people the tourists want to watch tend to stay away! Still, it's nice to go to Café de Paris next to the Casino, enjoy the sunshine and marvel at the cars in the carpark! The boats in the harbour are impressive too.
