    Hey all,

I want to buy 512mb of RAM for my pc.

I took the RAM out to see what kind it is.....it is DDR PC2100 RAM.

I'm finding it hard to find PC2100.....would PC4200 work?? ....or any other form of PC****??

You can use any kind of DDR that is rater higher, it will just clock itself down to the required speed so you can buy DDR 400 and take it with you if for instance you built a newer computer. However you cannot use DDR2 that is incompatible so just get some PC 3200 from Shop4Memory.

    PC 2100 = DDR 266
    PC 3200 = DDR 400
    PC 4200 = DDR 533 (non-official made for overclockers)

    PC 4200 = DDR2 533

Generally you can put over-specced RAM in and the PC will just happily run it under-clocked.

Some types of motherboard might be *ahem* fussier about it.

I would suggest going onto Crucial or Shop4Memory and using their memory configuration tools to check for compatability with your system. You should be able to pick out your motherboard model or PC model if you bought from Dell or similar. If there is non-PC2100 RAM listed there for your system then it should work without a problem.
