Ok I found this website and the idea is great. It would be great if there was an irish site like this but its not in my power, anyone?

Looks like a good website, thanks for the link.I agree It would be even better if there was an Irish site similar to this, anyone up for making one? That way then we can look up the website for places where there has been sightings and go and check them out with our friends or whomever...

I may end doing it as part of my site if someone doesnt jump at it but to be honest it would really take a bit of effort to do it right like the UK one.

btw I never said hi Ro....so hi ;)

Ok i've started working on this but before i throw too much of my time at it, what do people think?

Would we benefit from something like this? Mr.Magoo's recent thread on the Kilkenny area makes me think its will have some benefits.

Hmmm, just from a quick look it seems like something that'd slot in quite nicely with the database that I *am* doing. In fact it's already going to have a location search, the idea being that you could search for any investigations done in a particular area, you could then view a location and get a whole spiel about it, history, pictures etc and links to any investigations that took place there. So all that really would need to be done is for people to enter locations which haven't nessecarily been investigated.

Yeah, would your one allow for sightings in places where investigations arent possible, like lets say me seeing a spirit on O'Connell Street? The idea i'm kicking around is literally listing everwhere there have been sighting.

  • Moderators, Society & Culture Moderators Posts: 9,689 Mod ✭✭✭✭stevenmu

Yep, I don't see why not. I could put in some kind of filter too to allow people distinguish between locations that were investigated and one that was just entered with a sighting.

Reading this article I couldnt help but dig up this thread again.
On Thursday July 13, 2006, authors Dan Gordon and Gary Joseph will release a hair-raising navigational chart of haunted locations on America’s most beloved sandy peninsula. This eye-catching, 24” x 18” full color wall map includes not only many of the spooky sites from Gary Joseph’s and Dan Gordon’s widely acclaimed “Cape Encounters: Contemporary Cape Cod Ghost Stories,” but also several dozen locations drawn from the Cape’s rich tradition of storytelling.

Its definately on my "to-do" list for this year, obviously for Ireland ;)

Ok I've started work on the test version of an irish equivilent of this site. Would love it if people where willing to have a brief bit about their encounters on the site. Pointing to the general area i.e. South Dublin.

Obviously no details will be given of the locations when it comes to residential hauntings but they will be marked as residential.

Anyone up for this? I will have the test up by tomorrow night at the latest.

Ok first quick draft is up, its just the basic look for the site but I have to learn to do it in a proper programme.

    *Edit: fixed link.

I think it looks well, nice colours, the res on the map is a little light for the text. Will it contain dates for sightings that occurrs at different times rather then just what happens where? I have seen these listings for UK sightings etc and could help holiday planners.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,247 ✭✭✭✭6th

Yeah, dates etc will be put in where possible. Obviously I'm not going to stick in an essay for each sighting but will give as much important data as i can get.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,987 ✭✭✭Ziycon

Im liking the look, only thing i'll say is that the page is much to big, you have to scroll down in both Firefox and Internet Explorer! The colour scheme is perfect though!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,247 ✭✭✭✭6th

Yeah I had it that big for the map but i'm gonna have a smaller map where you click on Leinster, Munster etc which will take you to a more detailed map and then a page for each county.

I just wanted to get the idea and the look out there to get feed back, its gonna be alot smaller with no need for scrolling (I hope).

tharts cool. I'd go straight into the map page though, since that is the central focus of the site.

the only problem I can see with this is that some owners of apparently haunted places may wish to keep that information under wraps. If you have info up there and the owner of the premises doesnt want it there then there could be legal trouble

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,247 ✭✭✭✭6th

Ah thats not a problem, I wont be naming specific places without consent, unless they are public places i.e. parks etc.

I already have a list of over 20 places around ireland to list.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,987 ✭✭✭Ziycon

There is was very easy was to get around this, you can have the places stored in the database and you can display on the locations that people will allow on the site this way the admin have a way to track sightings without being open to legal threats!

I'm basically gone take submissions by email, if i did give the option of people adding their own entries i think i could end up in some trouble. I know it means more work in the beginning this way but the personal touch could well be worth it.

for those who havent look at it heres a preview:

    SSW.jpg

I'm gonna be hitting up people from the Experiences thread BIG TIME!!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,247 ✭✭✭✭6th

ok Ziycon took some of your advice and changed it a bit, hope the size is easier to see.
    www.SpectralSightings.com

I will have it up and running by thursday night if all goes well, if the hosting and email is sort. Then I can start asking you all to submit you're sightings/expereinces and we can build a bigger picture.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,247 ✭✭✭✭6th

will be interesting to see patterns forming on the map and look at positions of laylines etc.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,247 ✭✭✭✭6th

Someone resently mentioned, with regards to stone tape theory, about activity around bodies of water. I wonder if this will be significant when the listings build up?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 64 ✭✭LeinsterPar

aye, the awl water memory theory.

if you're stuck for hosting gimme a shout. I do all that type of thing

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,247 ✭✭✭✭6th

Ok well its now set up so i'm gonna be asking people to submit to it ;)

Thats cool LeinsterPar, Comer_97 on here does all my hosting, brother-in-law.

The site looks great. To enter a sighting does it have to have some sort of backup like investgations etc to it or is it just going by that persons account of what they saw.

Looking forward to seeing how it develops.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,247 ✭✭✭✭6th

Personal accounts are perfect, what i dont want to end up with is a list of castles that people have "heard" are haunted.

I'm looking for any locations whether they are roads, woods, beaches, homes, work places, pubs ... you name it!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,247 ✭✭✭✭6th

Wow finally have all 32 counties set up, of course i've only added one listing but with a few quiet days ahead of me thats sure to change!

6th you really should find a way to do websites that doesn't convert them to images. That won't register on search engines like google and you'll miss a lot of traffic.
