It's getting bad now...

Watching the GP the other day I found myself thinking "I'm bored".

F1 is really not doing it for me anymore. I've been a avid fan for about 10 years now but it's getting ridiculous.

Something has got to be done about the rear wing drag. How in God's name can you have a car that's faster not be able to overtake the car in front?! I know the details of it, that's more rhetorical. :)

I had expectations of Silverstone being a good race at least. There was always over taking or some thing interesting happen in the race. What happened the other day? With the exception of Shumi & KR near touching that was it.

Any girlfriend has always said "sher it's just a bunch of cars going around in circles". Before I could counter with any amount of details now the only rebuttal is the tracks aren't circles :(

Have to agree, the last couple of seasons have been getting painful to watch. Qualifying has been more exciting than racing this year.

The aerodynamics problem is obvious, they've already confirmed the new rear wing for 2008 haven't they? I think they should seriously consider bringing it forward.

Another problem though is that the rules are really really encouraging the teams to be conservative. Aside from the airflow problems, nobody wants to risk pushing hard when it might damage their engine's chances of lasting two weekends, and a risky overtaking move just isn't worth it when there's such a small points gap between positions and such a huge penalty if it goes wrong and you crash.

At Silverstone you had Ron Dennis basically saying they'd given up on victory and were intent on nursing the car home to second place while being interviewed by ITV, and at that point there was less than ten seconds in it with a long way to go. Meanwhile you had Alonso at the front just cruising and saving his engine, safe in the knowledge that Raikkonen wasn't pushing to catch him. Ferrari's move on Raikkonen was always going to be in the pits instead of on the track because it's the safer, easier, more sensible option. Then when they got into second they just toned down and cruised around rather than chasing Alonso, just like Raikkonen had. Reason being that even if they caught him they wouldn't get past, they'd just have stressed the engine and tyres for nothing.

Formula 1 shouldn't be an endurance race, it should be encouraging risk taking and a team who pushes the boundaries like McLaren did last year shouldn't end up so far behind a team who just plays it safe like Renault. Not to take anything away from Renault, they're performing beautifully, but the sport is suffering.

The only reason Alonso has such a huge lead is a Ferrari engine change and the crash at Australia earlier in the season, Ferrari had the quicker car at 3 races this year, and Renault had the quicker car at 5(arguably McLaren may have had the quickest car at a couple of places but poor strategies and unreliability have screwed them over), that's not the sort of difference that should lead to an unassailable championship lead, but it has due to the simple fact that when Alonso doesn't win he comes second. And while consistency is the mark of a champion, I don't think it should be the single most important element, and in recent years it has been.

I'm just sick of F1 now. 4 out of every 5 races now are nothing but processional ''races'' that come down to the length of pit stops and not down to actually racing or overtaking. It's so sad to see the ''pinnacle of motorsport'' being so tedious and boring. Too much politics, too much money and too few drivers with personalities have killed it IMO.

Motor racing should be about racing and nothing else. I don't give a damn about technology or whatnot, if I had things my way I would have every driver racing in an identical car.

If you want proper racing action and excitement watch IRL, MotoGP, BTCC or pretty much anything but F1.

MotoGP is well more entertaining and has been for a few years now.

A1 is way more entertaining than GP F1. I think it has just run it's course. Even Montoyas moving to Nascar smart move i think!!

I actually fell asleep during the gp yesterday! I was knackered from the night before. The BTCC was a million times better than F1 (btw:Well done to Eoin Murrey). I agree with ya steviec, the major problem with f1, apart from the lack of overtaking is the points system. Changing to 10,8,6 etc worked when M Sch was winning everything, the problem now is that a win doesn't mean as much, and when one driver gets a big lead in the championship, he can keep it easier, looking at Alonso for the last year also, Kimi couldn't overhaul him last year, and its looking the same for this yr with MSch.

I was at the gP yesterday - my family said it was crap on tv, but it was great watching trackside.
I honestly thought before going that it would be the most boring sh1te in the world, but I loved it. But then I would. Watching Hckenheim next week on tv will -probably put me to sleep.

    * was it real bad on tv??
