Spotted the link on another poster's sig, just wondering if it's worth joining? Any opinions or members on here? I've been running a 10 year old E36 for the last fews years which is going great.

If you want to take part in their track days you will need to be a member, membership also gets you a subscription to their magazine.

Im a user on their site but not a paying member.

I joined it in March 2005 when I bought a 520. Have some good craic on the forums, and have gone to a lot of the club events (even organised a meet in Galway). You don't have to be a club member to take part in the forums - there's no member/non-member discrimination there.

The forums do provide a huge amount of technical discussion, where-to-get, where to avoid, regional discussion and general chat. I've also met a good few really sound people through the club/forums.

Membership is only really beneficial if you want to participate in the trackdays in Mondello, some of the Show'n'Shine Competitions, and if you want the club magazines.

You don't need to be a member for all of the events, though, such as weekends away.

I'd say participate in the forums, and if an event comes up that you want to take part in that requires membership, then join up.

Membership is €50 per annum, and entitles you to some discounts with various companies (I can't remember who at the moment. Sorry.)

Agree completely - you'll also get the discounts on offer with most companies by asking, regardless of whether you're a member or not. The magazine isn't really much use in my opinion, although some people love it. If you buy a monthly BMW magazine already, you won't get much benefit from it imho.

Its not a huge membership fee to be honest though - as Fey said, use the forum and weigh up for yourself whether you want to pay it or not.

There's also the dark side forum - www.bmw-driver.net

Again, free to use the forum. A lot of people use both forums. And, again, a sound bunch of people. The main difference is that the club has posters from both Ireland and the UK, wheras driver is nearly all Irish.

And both forums organise good events. Driver is a little bit more unmoderated :)

Thanks a lot for the comments, I'll check out the forums as suggested and take it from there.

    Much obliged!

Update: In fact I've been welcomed onto the Irish Section Forum already :)

I have run flats on my 640 I need 2 new back tyres was going to go for non run flats will it be a problem mixing them as the front are still ok for a while yet was going for the same tyre just non rft

Ah here Ted, this thread is 13 years old, it should be decomposed at this stage.

BTW it is not advisable to mix run flat tyres and non run flat tyres. They both have different characteristics which affects the balance of the car. Either put two new run flats on or replace all 4 tyres with non run flats together.
