    Australia V Japan 2pm
    U.S.A V Czech Republic 5pm
    Italy V Ghana 8pm

the most exciting day of football so far.. well for me anyway as i have outright bets on 3 of the teams.. (italy, czech and japan)

we havn't seen any convincing wins in the world cup yet and i don't think that is going to change today..
the odds suggest italy have an easy task against ghana today but ghana have some real quality in their side and with the defensive tactics of both teams at work, i wouldn't rule out ghana getting a 1-0 win

don't know much about the other teams although i'm hearing that usa are the surprise new team to look out for..
czech on the other hand are an aging team and much has been expected from them over the last 8-12 years.. now is their last chance to prove themselves..

    details on all matches here...

Czechs are my tip to win it, I cannot see them not winning tonight. Dont know much about Ghana but Italy are usually slow starters although one would expect them to win this. The other math could be draw.

    Australia v Japan

I think Australia are being a little overrated but maybe that's down to their world class manager. They'll be solid and probably too physical for Japan but Japan have the advantage of playing in a hot climate and are technically superior. I can't see Japan keeping a clean sheet but I think they'll sneak the win. Hopefully Nakamura doesn't disappoint.
    2-1 Japan.

    Czech's v USA
Don't know much about the US but the Czechs have an ageing team and will be relying on Rosicky to create their chances. I'm hoping for a suprise from America.
    1-1

    Italy v Ghana
Can't wait for this match as I have €100 on Italy. Zambrotta and Gatusso are out but Grosso is an excellent left back and De Rossi is a better player than Gatusso. I'm looking forward to seeing De Rossi in the world cup. Hopefully Totti is on form. Ghana will be very strong and hard to break down but so are Italy. A tight game but with Totti, Toni and Gilardino I think they have the ability to get the goal they need.
    1-0 Italy.

    Is Nedved out?
No he's starting. Don't think he's that great anymore though from what I've seen of him the past season. He'll be fantastic to have in the team for passing the ball around but he won't be whipping up and down the pitch.

    Italy team:

    Buffon
    Zaccardo, Cannavaro, Nesta, Grosso
    -- Perrotta, Pirlo, De Rossi
    Totti
    Gilardino, Toni

Australia: Schwarzer; Emerton, Neill, Moore, Chipperfield; Grella, Culina, Cahill, Bresciano, Kewell; Viduka.

Japan: Kawaguchi; Tsuboi, Nakazawa; Miyamoto; Alex Santos, Nakamura, Fukunishi, H. Nakata, Komano; Yanagisawa, Takahara.

No Cahill for Australia. Bristol City's Luke Wilkshire replaces him.

0-1, Nakamura cross flew in over Schwarzer, dubious though because he was being fouled.

Delighted Nakamura scored but it wasn't a goal. I might switch over to BBC to see if they agree considering the uproar they caused after a similar foul on Ricardo by Terry in the Euros. :)

And if they do agree, see how long it takes before the comparisons are brought up... ;)

Nice open game of football so far, there was great value on betfair for Japan backers - I assume because of the Aussies backing their own. I have stuck a few quid on a red card by the end of the game.

Good bet. I'd say Grello might walk.

Nakamura is getting 7.88 in the BBC ratings, more than 1 point ahead of the next highest player.

Sweet strike makes it 2-1. Wonder how the Japanese will feel about their denied penalty claim when it was 1-1?

Im sick. I pressedthe lay button as Australia got the throw in to lay Japan off for some nice profit at 1.2, but by the end of the 5 seconds it had hit 1.21, seconds later it was 1-1. Luckily I didnt try to get out of it by lumping on the draw.
