Unemployment assistance

First post here, I am both looking for work(not finding any) and trying to find out where I will get some money in order to continue living!!.

I tried to read up about Unemployment assistance but I am unsure as to how detailed their so called "means test" gets.
I have heard they research your parents details and go through your own employment history etc.
How detailed does this actually get as in what do they do to "means test" you?.

I must contribue my own money to the household budget and will this be considered before they tell me I can't have it?.
Also, what do you do to sign on etc.?.
    Any information?.

If you've worked before you can get unemployment benefit. This is when you're paid from your PRSI contributions rather than from the state fund. The means test really just means you're paid less for living at home (with the benefit anyway). You'll need to give them a list of places where you've tried and failed to get work. You also need to have been finished college/school for more than 3 months.

Sounds like your worried about savings you have.

Think any other ideas date back to Mussolini tbh!

As far as I know - they only assess you on interest you earn from them. This is income!

So unless your sitting on over 100K I think you have no major worries...

Not true. I got it after only being out of college for 2 weeks. They means test you if you're at home and you get less that way, but at least it's something. If you cannot find work then you are entitled to it.

Head down to your local social welfare office and fill out a claim, you'll need a few documents which they will inform you of and once you're there, your claim goes through and it only takes a few days to find out if you are getting anything. And you most likely will.

Its 3 months if you havent been working in 2004 before you can get unemployment assistance. If you have been working while in college in 2004 you get the average of your wages up to €160 per week.

The 3 month disqualification applies after the day you finished your last leaving cer exam. If you have finished your degree/diploma you may sign on. But you can get UA in the summers between college years.

That's interesting; I was told differently. Although they do try to confuse people in order for them to **** off.
