Nowadays everybody reckons the life expectancy of people is increasing generation by generation. In victorian times, like expectancy for an average male was considerably lower than it is no and in cave man days(to use the correct term) adults probably all died in thier thirties. Most people has or had a granny that lived into thier 80's and a few that lived into thier 90's,but are we teh younger generation goingto live into our 100's?Would it not be true to say that we eat more processed, chemical enriched rubbish now than ever before and lead increasingly lazy lives devoid of excercise?Personally i'll be quite happy to get into my 80's but i dont know if we can expect to live MUCH longer than our ancestors..

Figures for 1996 show that Irish men at birth can expect to live until 73. Indeed, the latest figures from the Central Statistics Office show that life expectancy at birth for male babies in 2002 is 75.1 years

    70+ seems fine for me.

I often wonder. True, medicine and access to those services is tenfold better these days as they were even only a few decades ago but at the same time we are (generally speaking) eating so much rubbish on a daily basis that our grandparents didn't. Mcdonalds, Coca Cola, Processed dinners, sweets, etc etc. Now again, I know we don't all follow diets like that but the sad thing is that a hell of alot of people do. I know I did until I copped onto myself awhile ago.

I hope not. Nobody could pay the pension for so many old people who don't die.
And I don't want go become that old...65 is enough for me.

don't know about the rest of you, but 15 years of drinking, 18 years of smoking and a lifetime of junk food is gonna kill me off well before i'm 100.

My grandad didn't eat a whole lot of junk food but by god he smoked and drank literally non stop since he was a young man....and thats not really an exaggeration, the man was a raging alcoholic and never got over his addiction. He lived to be 86.

    Optimism, julep, optimism...

    Try 1000.

I think 75 sounds like a pretty good age to live to, but at the same time I want my parents to live forever!

i'd be happy to get well, do the things i want to do and then die happy.
screw living to 100. i don't want to be some nappy wearing, thorax missing burden on someone.
