Just wondering if anybody could provide my with a contact number to get a quote on some advertising in the University Record, TN etc. And if not the news papers even college societies' handbooks or freshers handbooks. Google didn't provide me with much.

    Educated guesses welcome! :)

Get in touch with Paddy Cosgrave, I can PM you his email etc if you want.

No posts in weeks, Andrew, but it takes you all of 16 minutes to respond to an advertising query :D.

Paddy's not doing it next year though. For TN, best to get in touch with Peter Henry (pehenry@tcd.ie) instead.

You should be able to contact the incoming SU (for the Record and their freshers' handbook) through the email addresses on their website. However, you're clearly better off advertising in the superior productions of the Publications stable ;) : Miscellany (Derek Owens, dowens@tcd.ie), Icarus and, uh...Piranha.

For the societies, you could check the CSC pages for their main email addresses. Not many of them seem to put out publications though - just the Hist, Phil, Music Soc and occasionally OneWorld, I think.

Well, actually it isn't the easiest to find that much information on the website - if you e-mail deputypres@tcdsu.org, you'll get in contact with the Editor for the University Record.

The hist and phil will email out their yokies in freshers week, so if its freshers the advertisement is going for, them would be the best, methinks.

If you want to advertise with the hist go to www.thehist.com and contact Darren Mooney the censor. They put out a miniumum of 2 magazines a year, with two for Michealmas term, a Freshers guide for the Freshers pack and a scheldule magazine detailing the term debates.

Thanks for the replies, its work related.

They're looking to advertise their product and I suggested students as a target market for the product because I thought it would be relatively cheap to advertise in college publications. Then again the product isn't specifically aimed at students.

In case you're still looking, an e-mail to Simon Hall would probably be handy about now rather than just to the dep pres address. No offence to Tom but there's no more records or union campaigns before Simon takes the reigns so he'll be the one handling the situation by the time the adverts are published. You'll be able to get him on science@tcdsu.org for the next few weeks and then the dep pres address should kick in.

He is a contrary so and so though so if you hear nothing back, he's probably in one of his trademark moods.

Having seen the prices for the SU freshers magazine and it's quality/lack of delivery on time I would say avoid it if you can, the society mail outs, i.e. the Hist and the Phil are both competitively priced and are mailed direct to incoming first years and hence a much better bet. If you want to go college wide then the Hist publishes a Shedule it gives out all over college or TN is good either although I haven't seen Trinity News' price list.

The Hist shedule is also quite well priced because as with all the societies it works on a volountary basis so they are probably better value given that DU PUBS/TN pay a comission on adds to the add sales people... and the SU hire a private company for their adds which are hilariously over priced.

bit of a hist fan boy?

    Doesn't make him wrong.

In keeping with the "Hist, yay!" theme, the direct address for getting information about advertising with them is censor@thehist.com - like Hils said, Darren Mooney is the contact name.

As a matter of fact I am yes, having done the advertising thing myself, is how I know so much.
And basically whatever about go the Hist, because they have the most publications of any Student soc and the biggest print runs I would say avoid the SU as best as you can :)

And only ring paddy if you want him to take 20% of the money you ever talk about :)

Well to try and counter the Hist love-in that's going on in here I'd throw in treasurer@tcdphil.com as another option for advertising with a society publication.

Thanks lads i'll drop the phil an email tomorrow. DIT newspaper the compact or independent was quite expensive. I suppose it claimed a circulation of 23,000 but the rates of advertising actually went up on last year from what I can make out.

    *cough cough*

    ...what about the Hist

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,198 ✭✭✭✭Crash

If you pay me two grand i'll walk around with a sandwich board with your companies name and details on it for all of freshers week.

I'll do it for 4, now thats a bargin!

money is quite tight. So can't even afford most of these college publications.

SU record is extremely expensive. Around a third of the evening herald!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,198 ✭✭✭✭Crash

    haha thats an absolute joke.

Maybe, when you are finished your search you could publish the results of what you found, costs, publications and all just so we would know? I am actually kinda interested...

Seriously though a third of the evening herald? That is priceless :P
