Simple question, four years ago it was France and Senegal, In 98 it was Brazil and Scotland, 94 in was Germany, etc.

    Anyone know?

Something to do with the holders not getting automatic qualification anymore? Its possible the holders wouldn't qualify for the next world cup so it makes sense to have the host nation start it off.

i think getting automatic qualification is a disadvantage. The teams wont get that sharpness from eternal friendlies
