    Need some help please....

I'm looking to buy my other half a martial arts suit for his birthday.

He wants a blue 'Atama gold weave'!

Any ideas where I can buy one and how much it will set me back?? Are they available here or do I have to buy online from the US?

That's about right for price. You could get it slightly cheaper from brazil, bt you might get rode on the shipping, and also it might arrive for next years birthday! They're just across the water so its all good.

www.playwell.co.uk may be worth a look also. Donno if they sell what you are looking for but they certainly do a wide range of MA stuff.

Think its Essex or some place like that in the UK they are based, and you can expect to have your order in about 10-12 working days.

They only do their own brand memphis. Gi's aren't like dobuks or kratty suits they take a lot more punishment, hence trying to get the top brands, and paying for it!

Considering exchange rates, it's probably cheaper to get it from the manafacturer's website. I've used them before they're quite quick.

I bought my atama gold weave gi from their website. It's the best gi out there IMO. So light and so strong.

Not sure, didn't buy from the UK site so I can't compare. I can't even remember what I paid if the truth be told. I guess you'd have to work out what both cost after shipping..

    Thanks dlofnep,
They don't have the international shipping charges on the site, so I guess I'll have to email them and ask. I heard that everything sent from US companies is getting caught by the customs and excise here now and that adds another 30% or so onto the price :(

    From the Atama site:
    International Priority/Express
    $33.00

    International Express
    $100.98

How did you find those Clive.... I put in Ireland as the destination... but it keeps coming up with US prices??

Just keep clicking on "checkout", "continue checkout" etc until you get to the "Shipping Address" page. Enter a duff address, but with Ireland as the country and the next page should be "Shipping Preferences", showing the rates above.

    Hope that helps!

Not to hijack the thread or anything, but I was considering buying a new gi myself.

This time around I was considering taking a chance on something different. Anyone heard anything good or bad about hemp gis? http://sites.browsermanaged.com/folder19681/index.cfm?fuseaction=detail&id=122957&product=193
    Why Hemp?

Hemp is 4 x's stronger than cotton, making it possible for me to make a much lighter fabric. perfect for hot weather.
Hemp fiber is very porous(many holes under magnification) when you sweat, it absorbs it,as air passes through the fabric it helps to cool you much better than cotton. Also in cold weather it retains body heat.
Hemp is known as an anti-microbial fiber. Which means mold and fungus can't continue to live and breed once it has reached the surface of the fabric.
Hemp also gets softer with each wash yet keeping its strength.
Hemp is one of those fabrics that gets stronger when it's wet, wash it in HOT and dry it on High.
