The young lads yesterday in Offaly not allowed to sit their junior cert exams because of a short haircut.Bit over the top if you ask me.
Today it was anounced they could take their exams but would have to do so in a seperate room isloated from other students.Jeez talk about the dark ages:rolleyes:

What does the length of your hair have to do with taking an exam? Is it so short they were worried about glare from the sun reflecting off his head and blinding the other students?

Huge thread here discussing same thing

I agree, haircuts should not preclude someone from taking an exam.

its a bit over-board alright. Listening to the radio here in cork and there are people complaining about students not allowed to take off their school jumpers. i mean in this heat, thats terrible. What someone wears or looks like should not have to come into the equation when doing important exams.

Never know..the sight of short hair might put off other students. They'd be able to see their scalp ffs!
Lot more info on it on the JC forum. It's still ridiculous though.

ROFL young lad on the news last night

"what do they think a short haircut will do, freeze our brains so we cant study like?" :D Just the accent it was said in is priceless, and I thought Drogheda owned the worst accent title.

We had a deputy head who I wouldnt put this type of carry on past. Truth is alot of teachers are petty people, put them in a position of power and they treat a school like their own kingdom, the staff/students as their subjects. Our lad tried to impose an utterly pointless rule of a one way walking system through one of the corridors, even though it was more than wide enough to alllow for two way traffic.

He basically had to give it up after a while, we completely flouted it in a symbolic go fcuk yourself sir kind of way.

Hes retired now. Now that Im pretty much set up and not relying on my school for any future reference or anything, I must remember to call him a tosser next time I see him.:)

When I was in school I used to dream of the day that I could say that...but then I became a mature adult! ;)

I remember the threats in our own school that students showing up for exams in blue denim shirts (they were so  in 1990) wouldn't be allowed to sit the exams. Didn't carry it through though, the headmaster developed a denim blindspot :)

A mate of mine grew a full beard over the holidays and was told to shave it when he came back on the first day. So he shaved a line all the way from the centre of his neck, up to his chin and then the middle bit of his moustache.

Next day he told the headmaster that he didn't have a beard, he just had large sideburns. Suspended for three days :)
