How lilkely is it to lead to pregnancy ?

    Hi A friend of mine is worried he and his girlfriend had sex the day after she stop taking her pill to allow for her period . At the tiem he was under the impresstion that this would be fine I'm not so sure . Can anyone tell me how likely is she to become pregnant ??

    No, it's normal to take a 7 day break after 21 days of pills, and you're still 'covered' during those 7 days. IF she's on the combined pill. The progestogen only pill is a little more dodgy, and I don't think it's prescribed very often because it's a lot less effective...heavier/taller women are recommended to take TWO of those pills a day.

    Without protection and with ovulation occurring while sperm are in the tubes, there is only about a 20% chance of it leading to pregnancy in fertile couples trying for a baby.

    Not trying for a baby, preventing ovulation by taking the pill, and being on the pill in the first place usually thickens cervical mucus, the chances are very very low that she would end up pregnant.*

    Since your friends friend was on the pill and was just starting her 7 day break she would be covered as mentioned above.
