i have two machines and everynight i transfer a large file from one to the other by ftp, the file is 20gig but it shouldn't take 12 hours at night should it when the network is quiet and they are on 100Mbps ethernet, is there anyway I can monitor the speed they are getting. I only have remote access to both i.e. ssh and they can only ftp to eachother.

What ftp prog you using? I noticed myself that ftping files from one PC to another using WS_FTP was slow. Switched to using Filezilla and saw a huge increase in speed.

Sometimes firewalls or anti virus software can affect speed too.

it's a perl script that's doing it so it uses the net:ftp module in perl
