Okay, I have started to get myself kinda worried. Over the past 2 weeks I haven't been eating. Well, I'd have small snacks but if I tried to eat anything worthwhile, I just feel ill. I never had this problem before, and it is starting to worry me. It's gotten to a point sometimes where I know I'm hungry, but i just can't bring myself to getting food. I don't know why, but it's just really annoying.

What makes it worse is that someone very close to me has gone through and still is anorexic and I don't want to put people through the same thing with me as they did with her. I'm a 20 year old guy who is about 5'10-5'11 and currently weigh just over 10 stone. About a month ago I weighed myself and I was just over 11 stone.

Is there anything I can do? I'd really like to try and nip this in the butt before it gets any worse. Thanks.

i would say its prob just the weather. i never feel like eating much when its really hot, i'd say most people are the same. when its cold you want to eat loads of comforting things, when its hot its all little salady snacks (as far as i'm concerned).

just give it a week or two, the weather will turn bad again and you'll be back to normal! or else your body will just have had enough of not eating and tell you yr hungry agian.

sometimes i go through phases of not wanting to eat, and not feeling hungry, and not feeling like i even want to buy any food. sometimes this can be because i don't have much money, and i subconsciously dont want to spend too much on food, or its because i'm distracted by something like a boy. it always passes. if you're really worried about it just make yourself go to the supermarket and buy loads of food that you normally like, once its int he house you'll probably feel like eating it. or else go for dinner with friends, once you're spending 10 euro or soemthign on a meal, you'll suddenly feel like getting your moneys worth and filling up!

I was the same last year. I was just not hungry most of the time, even though I knew I should have been. I nibbled on things and drank a lot of fruit juice and soups but nothing substantial. I went to get it checked out and ended up in hospital for 2 weeks. Turns out I had a serious lung infection. Since it was deep in the lungs the usual symptoms didnt show. The main symptom was loss of appetite, it is one of the first signs that something is not right. Get it checked out at the doctors. It could just be the weather, try salads etc but get it checked to be sure.

If you're worried, see your doctor.

it probably is just a transient thing... weather could have something to do with it as someone previously mentioned. i get like that myself sometimes too. i wouldn't be inclined to think that you have any kind of eating disorder as such. what i would suggest you do is to visit a good supermarket and browse around. look essentially at the fresh fruit and veg section, cooked meat section, dairy, etc... stay away from the sections where all the goods are in tins or wrappers such as biscuits and pasta. you should find that it doesn't take long browsing around the foods that are available in a good supermarket (fresh, etc) before your appatite is stimulated. you'll spot things you havn't eaten in ages, even things you forgot you liked, and get them...

salads are a healthy light meal when you dont feel like engorging yourself. might i recommend caesar salad... tescos supply a really good ready to serve one... a few pieces of lightly salted cooked chicken breast thrown in there makes a meal out of it! what about fruits... mangoes, strawberries, a nice crisp 'granny smith' apple, nectarines... buy the lot and make yourself a chunky fruit salad with some icecream or something.

anyway... whilst you're not in the mood to eat, substitute drinks like coke and that (you have to be drinking) for other more refreshing and nourishing drinks like fruit juice and milk to reduce the risk of becoming catachetic. come to think of it... are you drinking alcohol regularly? if so, this can result in severe depression of appatite when coupled with warm weather.

    go supermarket. ciao

Do "nip it in the butt" as you say!

I think Derek's suggestions are great...fruit in season is far far nicer now - delicious peaches in Superquinn at the mo if you live near one. If you're not hungry (and who is these evenings) this can be a great way to start a healthy eating regime. Chop a load of fruit and keep in the fridge - it really cools you off, is great for your skin, gives you a good burst of vitamins, is anti-cancerous and full of fibre to stop your system getting sluggish.

If your appetite does not return though, you shoudl see your doctor.

Last year I lost my appetite almost completely for a month or so, as a result of stress. Are you particularly stressed lately? I didn't even realise I was that stressed til I looked back on it...

Loss of appetite can happen for lots of different reasons. Go and see a doctor and tell him/her what you've posted here. Self-diagnosis is all very well but only a professional will be able to tell you why this is happening.
