[edit - found the article - http://www.ireland.com/newspaper/front/2006/0607/3352808421HM1ASYLUM.html ]On the radio this morning they were talking about underage asylum seekers. The HSE funded some place which isn't up to standard because of the need for places for the kids. One 15 year old Samali girl who was trafficked was rescued from a brothel. She later went missing from the care centre , which can't be named in case the same happens to others.

250 !! - some get reunited with families and others fend for themselves, but I shudder to think about what happens to the rest. As one comentator said if they were Irish children it would be a different story - from the links below it's been happening for YEARS... Nice to know in that the Celtic Tiger etc. means there is money to waste on eVoting but none to help those with real problems.
In the main, funding requests to the department since 2001 "remained unanswered despite repeated submissions".

One thing I don't understand is that if the girl was 15 and in a brothel , why wasn't it raided ? The law until last week meant mandatory jail sentences with no defence, so prosecution should have been a cinch. And judging by the numbers she can't be the only minor involved.

In the UK there has been a lot of debate about deporting asylum seekers after prison sentences. Obviously doesn't apply to small stuff. What is the position here ? I'm thinking of those who prey on people from their comuities here, like the traffickers and pimps and customers of under age brothels.

    The Health Service Executive

Correspondence, from the HSE to the Department of Health and Children in 2005 released under the Freedom of Information Act to the Irish Times stated that the HSE, which is responsible for separated children seeking asylum, believed that that the majority of separated children coming into care have been trafficked into the country. In a letter to the Department, the HSE stated that “The executive has on several occasions taken children into care following their rescue from desperate situations by the Garda National Immigration Bureau11.”

Over 250 separated children12 have gone missing from HSE accommodation over the past four years. It must be assumed that some of these children have been trafficked.

Yes bad things happen. But there are many facets to every story. Facts should be more important than interpretation, but sometimes they are conveniently ignored.

While there is a blanket view on "asylum seekers" upon emotive terms which generalise as noble refugees in fear of their life, rather than legal terms which is a person claiming for asylum, the blanket view allows more sympathetic misunderstandings to develop.

    As Ireland is a few years behind the UK in the mass immigration field, with a public and authorities who might be prepared to take things more at face value and a little more inexperienced as well as trying to come to terms with self doubt over "racism" (in the authorities as well as the liberal media), just let's put another light on that and factor in the UK experience;

Their are estimated to be hundreds of thousands of "missing" asylum seekers in the UK, of which tens of thousands are children.

Depends what the agencies, the papers and you qualify, understand, mean and interpret by "missing". Theoretically 250 "asylum seeking" or "refugee" children might be "missing on paper" but the reality can be different.

    SCENARIO 1

For example, amongsts the highly developed scams to defruad the UK; Family A has 3 children, Family B 1 child, and Individual man C and woman D with no children. Individuals C and D pose as husband and wife, borrowing family B & C 's4 children for the process of signing up for everything possible for a family with 4 children, such as housing big enough for six people, benefits for four children, any one off grants going (rooms in the house might then be rented out to illegals). Similarly Family B with 1 child borrow Family A's 3 and pose as a family with 4 and do the same thing and so on. Family A might then borrow B's 1 child, and again cash in for 4 kids. There will be cash kickbacks along the way.

Family A might sign up for all the goodies in one area with the 4 children, then sign up in another area under another identity with their 3 three.

(Remember London is a big place, up to 10 million people, with 32 independent local authories, plus more local authorities bordering, all with their own social welfare set ups. If you want to pull a scam there is plenty of scope .... which reminds me, there has seemed to be an increase in African holiday makers between Britian and Ireland in recent years using the ferries, where no passport or ID is required .... )

So, in reality there are only 4 children, but records exist for as many as 15 children.

Somewhere down the line the figure "11" ends up added to calculations in a report from some independent body amongst of the thousands "recorded" missing. Except they are not missing because they never "existed". And how many of those thousands are similar instances.

Perhaps hard to believe, but this S**t is happening. Ireland is behind on the mass immigration curve, but getting there fast. While idividual European countries indiginous fret and worry about whether or not they are being "racist" when they have have to deal with behavior from a non national, and where "refugee" and "asylum seeker" might still automatically be equated with noble person who needs your help, not somebody playing the system, scammers are taking a wholesale industrius approach.

So get this, in the UK, plans are now afoot to FINGERPRINT CHILDREN IN AN ATTEMPT TO CRACK DOWN ON THIS SCAM !!!!!

Can you believe that ? Sad but true.

The tragic case of Victoria Climbie made headlines, but in other examples who knows what "personal arrangements" parents and distant relatives who let them take small children to Europe with them with no or little future contact, enter into.

    SCENARIO 2

Some "unnacompanied" "asylum seeking" "children" automatically become wards of the state. Therefore even if they do not qualify for asylum or right to remain, the state becomes responsible for them until the age of 18. Obviously those with any cop on realise the implications of remaining in institutional care until their 18th birthday. Playtimes over. If they melt away again more techinically on paper they would be recorded as "missing children", and so accounted as one although the story was a little more complicated than that. (An example of this was Indrit Krasniqi, one of the depraved animals in the Mary Anne Legeghan case, who should not have even been in the UK past the age of 18. Up till his re-appearance on the radar he would have been classed as another "tragic dissapeared asylum seeking child").

    SCENARIO 3

Slavery. Increasingly common phenomenon in the UK. Interesting that some Nigerians who make it to the UK would be "middle class", people with enough financial resources available to them (perhaps even left at home) to get here, and used to "domestic assistants".

Not saying bad things don't happen to some, just that things are not as clear cut as the liberal media make out; eg "refugees desperate and preyed upon, trafficked into prostitution". Sure some terrible unfortunates are. But then again, who is doing the trafficking ... ? In 99.9% of cases the traffickers and pimps are fellow "asylum seekers", or perhaps more accurately people who gained admission to the country on the basis of claiming asylum. There are very few indiginous British "pimps".

Significantly the article makes no mention of who exacted violent incidents upon whom, just that they were recorded, which is where interpretation starts to be important.
